Two day format solves all your issues! Agreed, but didn't RIIL just take varsity states down to a 1 day tournament?

RIIL can eliminate match rule at Freshman/JV State. The same kids who couldn't go 7 matches yesterday, can wrestle 8 matches at Sectionals this upcoming week because it's a qualifying tournament for Varsity State. The extra match rule only allows for a 6th match, even at qualifying events. 7th and 8th matches would never be allowed.

Two day format solves all your issues! Agreed, but didn't RIIL just take varsity states down to a 1 day tournament? It was initially voted on expecting it to move down to a 16-man bracket. The expectation was 10 D1 seeds and 6 D2 seeds, but that didn't pass the coaches association. It went back to 20 seeds (12 D1 and 8 D2) when the issue of the match-limit rule was brought up it went back to two days.

The extra match rule only allows for a 6th match, even at qualifying events. 7th and 8th matches would never be allowed. That is correct. RIIL Rules in Article 32 Section 2 B.1This is the rule that has allowed weekend tournaments to limit matches to 5 or 6. NFHS Rulebook has this in Section 1-4 Article 3: So even in the advancement tournament, you're still limited to 6 matches according to the rule-book. Unless RIIL determines otherwise. Let's hope the brackets aren't bigger than 16 people or this could open a can of worms this year.

First off great job by Coach Gaffney and staff/parents for hosting the Fresh/JV states again. Its obvious this tournament is getting to big to run 2 separate tourneys. I think the RIIL needs to be a little more involved with helping them out rather than just collecting money at the gate. Maybe a hire a small security team to help with crowds, keeping cerified coaches in corner, and marking off enough space to have the podium far enough away to take pictures of your kids.People were 3 ft away which was tough for people to snap that shot .. I get it thats it only the "freshman and JV" but it is still a state tournament.Maybe look into PCTA even if it has to be moved to Sunday for availability.. Second, witnessing parents approaching the head table over the match rule limit and yelling at the tourney clerk is emabarrasing. That guy runs good tournaments and follows the NFHS rules. The rule is the rule and those coaches should to address it with there parents. Parents, if you got an issue, go to your coach. No state wrestles 7 or more regardless of time unless its over 2 days. If any kid gets hurt in that 7th match, i see a lawsuit happening. Good luck to those going back to Coventry for the Sectionals this weekend and to all who wrestle at Stets and New Englands.

I haven’t heard about this at all but who’s going to be the D1/1 seed for 145 since Fertado and vital hasn’t wrestled at all? I would assume who ever has more power points

Heard a rumor that 126 Hope Sincere Pompey might no longer be on the team. If that is true, that opens the door for someone like SK Ben White to get on podium

Thanks for putting in the work this season FunkMaster, I know how long it takes to put up quality rankings.
That being said, can’t wait to see these rankings get blown up at sectionals & states. Annual reminder to all the wrestlers on here that rankings don’t mean **** when the postseason starts. Good luck to all

The number 1 from sectionals is not rewarded for their finish. Its a very heavy d1 bias and goes against the integrity of what the sectional tournament should represent. I cant understand why the sectionals champ isnt given the automatic #2 or the #1 if they have a head to head wins or previous year state champ. There is zero difference in the road a 5th place at sectionals and a 1st place sectional take. However, it does make for some great 1/4 finals match ups 138 Castillo v Monteiro 152 McConnell v Currier 160 Winfield v Cambell 160 Cruz v Poore 120 Mooney v Monez 120 Davis v McGrew or Martins 170 HunterV Scalma 220 Dioro v Alchihed

Who do you think has the upper hand in a possible rematch between Mian and Vital?

Who do you think has the upper hand in a possible rematch between Mian and Vital? In my opinion, I say Vital. He’s faced better opponents overall all season. The wrestlings always the best at the end of the season and it’ll give Vital the upper hand

Eneas Castillo WOW just WOW, what a stunner. Rootin for that kid for sure
Connor Winfield with a huge win over Braeden Campbell
Alex Herrera in the semi finals with a big win over Ason Jones
Hulkow drops a tough match in the quarters against the bracket buster Denzel Monteiro (I had a feeling this kid would shake things up) not to mention Robbie Newton working his way through the bracket comfortably
Vincent Merlino with a big upset over the sophomore phenom Ben Wilcox
Yuilcal Cruz drops a tough one to Jacob Poore of EP
Just a handful of spectacular matches in day 1.
Day 2 should be nothing but GREAT wrestling all day.
