Welcome back everyone! With the season coming up in just four short weeks it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. Plenty of hammers returning from stellar seasons with some some in their final seasons.
Expect the first set of rankings shortly after competition begins in December.

Coventry should be 1 because they won states last year. Sure they lost some kids but I think they are still looking strong.

Coventry should be 1 because they won states last year. Sure they lost some kids but I think they are still looking strong. Coventry lost christain Rutherford and Adam Vesey. Pono gained Preston, Mike Diorio, Joey Joyce, David Perez. All top 3 guys. They're pretty even looking at 106-152 but pono has Andrew Real #1 in the state, Nick Bacala top 3 at 170, Preston top 2 at 182 and Mike top 2 at 220. The only guy Coventry has that's bigger is there heavyweight who will probably take 3rd

Input on PFP and overall outlook of season:
1. Gabe Bouyssou- need to see the matchup with Joyce 2. Jake Joyce-need to see the matchup with bouyssou 3. Peyton Ellis- could take home the new england title 4. Spencer Fine- will pin Marchessault if they wrestle but should be finals 5. Hayden Myers - swaim and leischner elevate the field 6. Andrew Reall- not much competition at the 160lb 7. Jason Hood- boring weightclass challenge yourself and go down 8. Jared Hood- Ryan Conlan did place higher at New Englands 9. Iseal Perez - Baccala could win this matchup 10. Corbin Maraia- may struggle with Reiner would love to see diorio here HM. Cam Davis- should be ranked higher with his new englands performance over 7-10 Missing Andrew McCarthy... state finalist as a freshman and is a dog. 120/126 he pushes to make a run at gold. 220-HW are very weak diorio should win easily anything less is a letdown, although his AA status a little off bc he went 0-2 at Va Beach, Church should walk through HW but also not a tough ask of him but dont be surprised to see him at 220. As much as the state and the two wrestlers need the challenge dont expect to see the Joyce Bouyssou match, pono coach wouldnt let that happen pretty sure Serge would love to see Gabe get the challenge.
If pono doesnt win the states and new englands thats also a let down they brought in some of the best talent in RI in the offseason but COV is gritty and is just watching all this pono talk while they still hold the title Im sure they are using it as fuel. NK and Hope battle for 3rd the top 10 after is anyones for the taking
Hendricken should round out the top 5 they have a fairly consistent lineup with a few dogs in there. Lasalle, Central and EP did well at freshman states curious to see if that translates into varsity improvement. West and Lasalle fall off a bit with the losses of state placers but they are non factors in top 5 anyways. Cumberland and Mt Hope are they gonna return to relevancy both have dogs! North Providence, Woonsocket, Burrilville and Chariho always put up quality rosters... NP returns Soe who is solid. Can, Maraia carry chariho into top 10?
looking at some teams schedules this year is also impressive, Teams going to Ohio, Delaware(beast of the east), PA, NY, NJ and all over New England... everyone who is in the top 10 is looking to get better by challenging their rosters.
However until coaches release lineups and weigh ins start happening this is all irrelevant... need to see who is actually in what weight classes and who ducks who and what matchups actually happen and the health of wrestlers always plays a role
Stay healthy and good luck to all. This season should be fun!

This season should be fun! Silly point to make about at 26 pounder going up to wrestle a good size 45…. Pono doesn’t duck tough matches. they are wrestling the toughest tournament schedule by far out of any other team in the state.. both wrestlers are very talented but Joyce is ranked higher(flo) at the moment and is coming off a S32 placement which is why he should be 1.

I think you misread the "ducking" part... that was in general to the whole state, its part of some teams strategy, we also recognized many of the difficult schedules and the states they (pono) are going to are listed, also we dont have a confirmed weightclass for either of them(Gabe & Jacob) unless you are one of their coaches and know that already so until the season gets going and if they end up 1 weightclass apart that is not an out of question matchup. especially to help settle the best P4P wrestler debate... very rare we ever see 1 let alone 2 wrestlers in RI this quality so if they are close in weight... give the fans what they want, no? Don't get offended

I like all rankings and the pound for pound talk, I think its great for R.I. wrestling. I must say that I sincerely doubt you will see a Gabriel and Jake matchup especially during the season. A matchup like that would not make sense but certainly not because either of these great wrestlers would duck the other. Jake Joyce is as tough as they come and is always up for ANY challenge but the fact of the matter is that Gabriel is at least 2-3 weights above him and the risk of injury is to much to chance for a have fun match. As for Gabriel's weight he has not decided where he wants to go yet. He could go anywhere from 132-145. The decision is all his to make. I believe R.I. could have one of their best showings this year at New Englands and I am very excited to see just how many New England champions we end up having. It will be interesting to see how the team standings are after we get to see everyones lineup.

D1 Rankings 1 Pono 2 Coventry 3 Hope 4 Hend D2 Rankings 1 Narragansett 2 Lincoln 3 Central 4 Toll Gate D1- 1. Pono (edges Cov with there additions), 2. Cov (returning Champs and hungry to repeat with a solid returning lineup 3. Hope (Always tuff and expect them to be right there until the end. 4-5 I think you gotta throw in NK and EP in the discussion at 4-5 w Hend. NK always tuff and consistent and w EP back in D1 we all know they just turn out tuff, gritty kids. (As always, D1 puts out solid teams) D2- 1. Lincoln- Defending Sectional Champs and many returning. 2. Central- Always tuff, great freshman class last yr 3. Pigrim- Cant count them out, could have a few sectional finalists and solid dual team 4. Woonsocket- You never know what hes hiding up there in the state but always turns out some tuff competitive TG and Scit. both have 1 returnung state placer, but if these teams can fill lineups then we can expect them to be competitive in D2 and in top half at sectionals D3 1. Narragansett- A few very good tournament scorers, should be in top tier at sectionals, if they fill a lineup, should be atop D# 2. Johnston- Same as Narragansett but not as many tournament scorers returning, should be a comp. team in D3 3. To early to tell but MP and Classical could also be in the top at D3.

I feel like we already know whose going to win the team titles - Pono Div 1 and State with Lincoln winning Div 2 and Sectioanls. I was suprised to see East Providence went to Div 1 instead of Lincoln. Even though the team titles are pretty much spoken for and most state champs are predictable, I love watching kids make the podium from 3rd to 6th who we don't know nothing about, like the Juanita Sanchez kids taking 3rd at hwt in his 1st season. I'm excited that 22 teams are signed up for this weekend at South County. Definitely worth spending the day in the gym to watch. I also saw St. John's prep and Pono are both signed up for the North Providence tourney next weekend. I hope both teams send some varsity guys.

I haven't seen any lineups yet. You have probably have access to their rosters on track. If that is so, sectionals is definitely going to be excited this year.
My Div 1 pre-season rankings 1 Pono 2 Coventry 3 Hope 4 Bishop
My Div 2 pre-season rankings 1 Lincoln 2 Central 3 Pilgrim 4 Toll Gate
