Let's put the Hendricken discussion to rest and rally together as a state, since the wrestlers are now preparing for the New England tournament. They will be working in the same room this week preparing to wrestle as a team. All that negative energy isn't doing anything positive for Team Rhode Island! Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed in the states this weekend. Good luck to all the RI wrestlers heading to the New Englands. I never bought into the Team RI crap. You're training with potential opponents. No other state looks at it like some in RI do. There is no "Team CT" or "Team MA". It makes us look small and weird.

I want to end this dscussion just like everybody else and talk about the great matches at states but I must ask, Does Hendricken have the potetnial to ever be like Coventry in the 90's? Can they win 17 straight state titles? I think so. However I don't think it will be respected as such. Like it or not, Hendricken does have a larger pool to pick from and seems to get tons of great talent. I don't really have a strong opinion either way. However, when a returning state finalist doesn't crack the varsity lineup a season later, your team is crazy stacked. I think they placed 13 of 14 weight classes. I haven't had an issue with Hendricken being stacked, because at the end of the day, this is an individual sport. I bet you ask any of Hendricken's former wrestlers that won a state title as a team, but didn't win a title as an individual, would trade their team title for a state title anytime. That said, I really hope all the RI wrestlers do well at New Englands, Hendricken included.

How am I talking out of my ass? Ive stated multiple facts on here that none of you can back You can account for excerpt by saying "it makes RI Wrestling better". That's nothing but your opinion. You are completly naieve if you think it helps the state. Why do kids want to compete as a team if they are competing for 2nd? Especially against kids they went to middle school with? Why would kids want to come out for their school teams if they know they'll always be second, regardless of how hard they work? They play by different rules and get away with it. End. Of. Story. That state tournament was as dull as ever team wise. If you say anything but that then your "your talking out of your ass".

Hendricken does play by different rules. But you can't get mad at them for being good. Or some top kids wanting to ne a part of there program , wining attracts winners. Now would my kids have started 4 years on there football/wrestling/baseball teams. Probably not. Would I trade playing time for state titles , I wouldn't, but that's me. I think I'd rather play every down or inning on a contender then play only my senior year on a championship team. Wrestling is weird. It's a team sport. But is it really. It is hard to win a state title when 2 or 3 kids that grew up in your town are wrestling in the finals wearing green & gold.

I think sauro could be there. Sauro vs Garcia from Danbury would be an unreal final.

Disano win NE. As a freshman Howard. Oconell. . Could O'connell and Howard both look like strong contenders to at least make the finals. I think Bivona could surprise. I think Disano is a great freshman wrestler BUT he has a tough first match with Dan Pisani a senior from Franklin followed by a rematch with Gassaway. I tend to think a senior returning New England champ would have taken something away from the first matchup a 4-1 win. I expect a wider margin this time. If i'm wrong and he upsets then he'd probably see Andrew Ellis the MA-1 a senior beast. Then a senior Cam Bennett the NH-1. Let's not crush this kid with unreasonable expectations. Last week he was the next 4 timer and he came awfully close to getting number one. This week he's going to beat 4 seniors to get to the finals against Tim Kane the CT-1 a sophomore who is 33-0 this season. Slow down people.

One more thought. Cardoso beats Raetz in the qtrs and is easily in the finals. I think he'll see Lindner there and would have to wrestle his best match but is fully capable.

A closer look at the brackets 145 O'connell has Ryan Peters NH-1 from Timberlane who last year was a sophomore All American.
At 138 Howard is clear to the semis where he gets Lemieux NH-2.
Very very tough roads

Dimauro/Bivona ,Martino/Giorgio plus a couple other real close matches.I am with ya on the team RI crap,it is individual from here on out, however I would like to see each RI kid place !!!!!!!!!
