BH is one of the best teams in New England. Quit complaining about how your schools can't compete. I don't think 2 for 7 in the finals is anything to brag about. Keep recruiting though and maybe you can get 3 champs next year.

How does Hendricken make RI wrestling better? Yes 7 finalists but only two champions. Every single one of those kids would be wrestling for the school of the town they live in, which means, they would still be finalists, and therefore not hurting the state of RI wrestling wise. Your argument makes no sense what so ever. Sorry. Why would they be wrestling for their local public school? They would still wrestle for Hendricken in whatever league they were changed to. A school doesn't cease to exist just because it doesn't compete in the same state tournament. And regardless, this would hurt wrestling because Hendricken is one of the only schools that competes in high level out of state tournaments consistently, likely because they can afford to. I didn't go to Hendricken, I don't especially care about if people think they're a fair team to compete against, and neither do the wrestlers who won their respective weight classes yesterday. What I do care about is wrestling in Rhode Island and this is made better by having an in state shook that is a bit of a powerhouse which draws in quality wrestlers and keeps them in RI.

What about 126. Take nothing away from stamas. Great win great wrestler. And I was rooting for him. Anyone surprised there wasn't a stall call. BH kid was really pushing the pace. If the score was 7-1 I think there's a call. Disano was looking to tie up and push. Not push the pace just PUSH. If he was consistently looking for the takedown he would get the call. He would fake duck but did really attempt a takedown? I'm glad it wasn't decided by a BS stall call.

Hendricken has state placers like Jon Celico sitting out states because they have no open spots. Kids will think twice about going there.

I don't go to Bishop Hendricken just to wrestle, I go for the academics. I was provided with the opportunity to be on an elite team, and I just didn't work like I did last year. I don't regret anything, and BH is a great school. I'll be back out there next year, varsity or not, but I'll put the work in. Don"t discourage kids from attending the school just for sports, because 99% of kids do sports as a recreational activity. Academics are the most important, and I hold them in higher regard than a varsity wrestling spot any day.

So you think if the score was 7-1 there still would be no stall call. I don't know. If seen some refs call stalling for way less. And for the record I'm also glad the match wasn't decided on a stall call. I think the fact it was a finals match made it harder to call. That's all I'm sayin , was a great match.

With all due respect to individual situations you can receive a quality education at any number of institutions in Rhode Island both public and private. The issue, to me, is Hendricken recruiting wrestlers. Lasalle is a great example of a private school that does it right. They have kids placing at states that were not middle school stars. They dont just try to build an all-star team.

I don't think it was stalling. He wasn't fleeing a take down attempt. I think they were in a very tight tie and Disano was driving forward and he had the stronger legs. I don't think we should start giving points for just pushing. If it was freestyle he gets a point for pushing him out. If it was sumo he would have won the first time he pushed him out.

Recruiting is not allowed, and i was not recruited. I was afforded the opportunity by my parents, as well as my brother. Many of the wrestlers came to the school because their fathers attended the school, and they wanted to provide the best opportunities for them. I would rather wrestle in that room and have to fight for a varsity spot than attend any other school and have one given to me, because the competition is not the same. You would have to attend the school and know the atmosphere and environment to understand where I am coming from.

I can respect that but I think there are some kids out there who would rather be three-time state placers than practice partners for kids who are trying to be. Kids can stay at home or go to another private school and beat those kids. Plus you have to go six hours a day without seeing a pretty girl.

I think this discussion should be out to rest because the ignorance and lack of understanding by jjwrestle42's comments are not worthy of anyone else's time!

Enough about hendricken. All just jealous for some reason? My son went to vets on a team with 5 state chsmps couple years ago. Public education and in college now out of state. You get what you put into it. Hendrickan did not try to recruit my son but would of loved to have him. There are many places off season to get extra work and continue during season. Serge opens door to all wrestlers of all schools should we knock him for having great kids and wrestlers. No matter what school your in, RHODE ISLAND wrestlers are tough nosed kids let them enjoy their highschool years what ever school your in. CONGRATS hendricken on a superb year keep giving RI good arhletes

I didn't think I said anything out of line but do apologize if I hurt any sensitive feelings out there. It's all Alex Dalosio's fault for restarting this haha but seriously it was a great state tournament and I think the future is bright for RI wrestling. There are some outstanding underclassmen Nappi, Young, Bloom, Brown, Rivet, Hussey, Disano, McGill, etc and great young coaches. Can't wait for next season. Good luck to all RI wrestlers at NE's (even Hendricken)

Public schools have done well in the past, like in a lot of sports it comes in waves. EWG for example is a small school district but had a stretch of 3 years where they were very strong and placed 3rd in New England's two years in a row and had 3 top 3 and lace finishers last year. Cumberland and Vets are also a couple of public schools that have had strong teams as well

JCELICO, I think you are dead on !!!! You have already proved yourself on the mat and it is all about Academics,I do agree that westling is one sport that can discipline one on and off the mat, those who think they are going to school just for sports and leave the academics out are seriously mistaken and will someday be asking you if you would like fries with that shake or do you remember 20 yrs ago when I finished third in the RI state wwestling championship from behind a counter......Keep up the good work !!!!!! And yes I have personally witnessed the success that Hendricken can have on ones life !!!! (and for that matter have also witnessed what a public school can do for those who strive in both sports and academics) WTG place finishers,I am a true Blue Panther Pride Fan but my Heart is now with a young man from Hendricken who is already a champ in my eyes !!!!!!!

Ok two things here you Hendricken lovers need to understand, one is that NO they may not attend the school if they weren't participating with us, why? Because a lot of parents may not want their son traveling grueling hours just for one match, chances are they'd thing twice about it,and two, the RIIL is like the commission of the league here, basically Hendricken is like an NFL team that doesn't have to abide by the salary cap rules while everyone else is over here maxed out to a limit of 50 million. Period.

First off I don't even have a kid at Hendricken but you are talking straight out your ass !! Have you ever even met some of those kids, most are hardworking dedicated polite and smart all wrapped in one bundle.I know what it is !!!! You are a parent whos kid got their ass kicked by a boy from Hendricken! Im a panther fan and always will be,who also had a great coaching staff but just didn't have the depth and or the numbers but believe me Hendricken is an asset and it is always fun competing against a great group of kids and staff..enough said !!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's put the Hendricken discussion to rest and rally together as a state, since the wrestlers are now preparing for the New England tournament. They will be working in the same room this week preparing to wrestle as a team. All that negative energy isn't doing anything positive for Team Rhode Island! Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed in the states this weekend. Good luck to all the RI wrestlers heading to the New Englands.

Oh and John Celico, you are one classy kid and an excellent example of the kind of student that attends Hendricken High School. Not only do you have class, in a respectful and articulate manner, you also have the courage to stand up for what you believe to be true! You're going places kid!
