Okay fellas, I started to take over rankings for switchit last year. I will try my best to do the same this year. I figure with matches starting next month, it would be fun to put out some pre season rankings. These will be my worst rankings for the year. First, I don't know everyone that graduated last year, or simply decided to not wrestle this year. Second, I don't know who will be in what weight class. I figured that instead of guessing at who will be in which weight class, I will put all the wrestlers in the weight class they were in last year. Now I am not dumb, I know that most guys will not be in the same weight class as last year. For example, I know there is no way Cardosa makes 106 again, but instead of guessing, I will adjust the weight classes when I see who is wrestling for sure. Third, I am leaving freshman out of the rankings, until I see them wrestle. I have slacked on watching middle school wrestling for a little bit now. Lastly, remember these rankings don't mean anything. Wrestle as hard as you can and prove me wrong. I love when upsets happen. Here they are. I started with how guys finished at the state tournament last year. If you placed in the states last year, and are not on my rankings, I apologize and probable thought that you graduated.

Soares from Johnston and Tufano from Burrillville are names to keep an eye on at 182. Soares is a very tough opponent . Tufano is a very underrated and interesting wrestler who's still fairly young and has lots poetential. Howard from smithfield is also another name to watch at 182. Very quick and strong.

ringstar, I wouldn't count anybody out of the 182 lbs weight class. Alot of the top wrestlers in 170 and 182 graduated last year. So the weight class is open

At this early time, it could really go to anyone. We will just have to see who's the better wrestlers at that weight when the wrestling officially starts .

If Peoples or Sauro is that heavy (though I don't expect them to be), I would put either guy as the clear favorite in the weight class

Untill we have solid evidence, this weight is a mystery . For all we know it might come down to someone coming out of the woodwork and making things difficult like that MP 195 a few years back.

Lundstein is now attending school at East Providence High School, so I would assume he is wrestling for them now too. Here are a couple of freshman names to check out in the future. Disano from Curtis Corner(106), Young at Coventry(106), Fernette at Burrillville(132), Lynch at Ponagansett(138) , Rivet at Hendricken (112). There are a couple of other freshman that could make a splash, but I just forgot who they were from the RIPCOA states last year.

here are the other freshman to keep an eye on. seth brown and colin Metcalf at Coventry (119, 126), cole McGill at Narragansett (126), Schafer and Sprague (148), wrizen. Max Davies cruised thru the 200 class last year, but like all freshman, a huge hill to climb going into high school. I think only disano and rivet have a chance to make the mid season rankings, but you never know. just a few names for riwrestlingfan to keep an eye and ear out for. hope this helps.

Here is my two cents for the start of the season. Obviously these rankings are not official, hopefully some day we get an official ranking system like other states. This ranking can only happen with the input of parents and coaches. As we seen in the past, most of the input is from parents that go to the matches and have been involved in RI Wrestling. I know that it is mandated by RIIL that the results be posted ASAP, but way too often, they are not posted for weeks at a time. If you are a coach, or you know a coach, please tell them to post the results as soon as they can. These rankings are pretty accurate, but they cannot be updated unless we have up to date results. Also if your team goes to a tournament, those results are important too. My son's H.S. team always posts thier results right after the match or the next day, so it can be done. Can't wait for the season to start. Anyone have a pre season team ranking they wish to post. I am sure that will start up a conversation...

All of these weights are a mystery. I can't even tell you how weights will shake out on my team never mind anywhere else. I do enjoy the rankings though. There are always surprises, last year kids were 1,2,3 weight classes higher than the previous year and I think that we will see that again. No way cardoso or teves makes 106, no way celico gets back to 13. Id be surprised to see soto at 26 also. So many SR at 32,38 last year. Same situation at 285...whole podium graduated and to be honest not to many impressive big guys after those top 6, I'm sure coaches were combing the football fields lolol. When we get rolling I'll get some info so we can get these as accurate as possible. Hydo test isn't that far off.

Having come in my freshmen year at a heavier weight , I understand the challenges that will come for kids like Davis , soltrio, lasardo and Crocker . This doesn't mean that these guys can't shake things up and wreak havoc. I'm intrested to see where Burrillville puts lasardo , having three experienced guys already at the three weights he could go.

Shoot, you make a good point. I know most guys won't be back in last year's weight class. I just figured it is pointless to take guesses. The rankings will be alot more accurate when matches begin

I don't think any of the listed wrestlers from 106 to 126 will see their bracket from last year again accept Bloom. My word is this site quiet.

Jarell won't be at 145 this year but I'd list him at the top of any weight class that he goes...

Short at 152 from Westerly lost to Luis Salazar of West Warwick 4-3 at the Wilson Cup. Salazar lost in the finals to South Kingstown's Chase Bivona. Anyone else see a notable upset?

No upsets,
Tough 132 bracket at mt. hope saw teves lose to soto in a close match. Then with Soto up 3-1 against torres in the final he had to inj default out after a scary head to head. Howard looked tough at 38, cardoso was dominant OW at 120,

I noted that Hendricken still has a dominate duel meet team after seeing the results of its meet with Barrington. Barrington had a large number of returning wrestlers but only scored 3 team points. I hope the matches were closer than the score shows.
