What happened to the Warwick Vets wrestling program? It used to be a strong program but now I dont think they have an athlete in every weight class.

Vets is in a rebuilding phase. Plus, they have a few injuries. I'm sure they will be stronger as the season progresses.

Vets definatly has low number in room. The team is made up of mostly freshman and sophmore. Coach friel is doing a good job getting the young ones prepared. Always helps when you have the Meyer brothers and lil george schmeider in room coaching too. Best of luck this year warwick vets and all the wrestling community. Remember hard work does pay out in the end!!!!

Just heard Nick Celico (returning 113 state champ) is not wrestling this season to do track instead. This is big news and I really hope he changes his mind. I think he would have had a great showing in New Englands this year. However if his heart isn't into wrestling then I hope he does well in track

Wow, that's surprising about Nick, since he was wrestling as recently as the summer. He placed 3rd in the Massachusetts Bay State Games at 120 lbs., losing only to New England champ Acquino in the semis. (BTW, brother Jonathan placed second at 126 and Nick Giorgio of Cumberland placed 2nd at 220; and no, I don't really understand how some N.E. high school kids are eligible to enter the Bay State games.) I did notice that only Jon Celico was in the Hendricken line-up against Barrington earlier this week. Nick would certainly be a N.E. contender at 120 or 126 this year, but since he has already accomplished so much in his wrestling career it's understandable that he would try other outlets before he leaves high school. I will admit I can't help thinking of Steve Johnson of East Greenwich a few years ago who switched to basketball his senior season after winning a state wrestling championship the year before, but eventually came back to wrestling and won another championship. Whatever Nicholas decides to do I wish him well. High school only lasts four years but the memories last forever.

Is anyone else getting frustrated over the fact that coaches aren't posting results on the RIIL.org website?

RI had some surprising Lowell Holiday Tournament results(at least to me). At 120, Collin Cardoso lost in the semis to Tyler Raetz from Mt. Anthony. Cardoso forfeited his consi matches to finish 6th. Injury?
At 113, Abe Bloom was pinned in the prelims by Casey Abshire of Lowell. He did wrestle back for 5th place.
Also, at 170 Ebed Jarrel lost in the finals to Fritz Hoehn from North Andover by tech fall. The loss wasn't shocking but the margin was.
These are three prohibitive favorites in their respective weight classes to win states. Good early season tests for all.

Okay fellas, I started to take over rankings for switchit last year. I will try my best to do the same this year. I figure with matches starting next month, it would be fun to put out some pre season rankings. These will be my worst rankings for the year. First, I don't know everyone that graduated last year, or simply decided to not wrestle this year. Second, I don't know who will be in what weight class. I figured that instead of guessing at who will be in which weight class, I will put all the wrestlers in the weight class they were in last year. Now I am not dumb, I know that most guys will not be in the same weight class as last year. For example, I know there is no way Cardosa makes 106 again, but instead of guessing, I will adjust the weight classes when I see who is wrestling for sure. Third, I am leaving freshman out of the rankings, until I see them wrestle. I have slacked on watching middle school wrestling for a little bit now. Lastly, remember these rankings don't mean anything. Wrestle as hard as you can and prove me wrong. I love when upsets happen. Here they are. I started with how guys finished at the state tournament last year. If you placed in the states last year, and are not on my rankings, I apologize and probable thought that you graduated. 106: 1. Cardosa - MH 2. Celico - BH 3. Hussey - EP 4. Teves - MB 5. Persechino - EWG 6. Porcaro - Cumb 113: 1. Celico - BH 2. Bloom - MB 3. Bross - Cumb 4. Jerez - Woon 5. Robichaud - Cov 6. Howard - Lin 120: 1. Stamos - EWG 2. Kreiger - NK 3. Leite - EP 4. Gomez - CW 5. Duckworth - SK 6. Murphy - Cov 126: 1. Soto - John 2. Brodeur - Cov 3. Forand - LSA 4. Eddy - NS 5. Zarogian - NK 6. Swanson - BH 132: 1. Howard - MB 2. Caparco - John 3. Lourenco - WV 4. McCarron - NP 5. Jacobsen - BH 6. Gomez - CW 138: 1. O'Connell - CW 2. Torres - MH 3. Durkin - Cumb 4. Arruda - BH 5. Mosby - Barr 6. Negrete - NP 145: 1. DiMauro - BH 2. Lundston - Barr 3. Jarell - EG 4. Duran - SK 5. Pimental - MH 6. Vaziri - CW 152: 1. Short - West 2. Almonte - CW 3. Bivona - SK 4. Ribezzo - John 5. Meltsakos - Barr 6. O'Hara - EG 160: 1. Stewart - BH 2. Peoples - EP 3. Francis - LSA 4. Thibaudeau - MH 5. Skawnski - Cumb 6. McGreen - SK 170: 1. Sauro - BH 2. Mulligan - NP 3. Vigeant - John 4. O'Connor - Midd 5. Bernard - LSA 6. LaCroix - Burr 182: 1. Valerio - LSA 2. Cauchon - SK 3. Potter - Pil 4. Soares - John 5. Akindole - Hope 6. Zanni - NP 195: 1. Conte - John 2. Brown - NK 2. Costigan - Char 3. Reilly - Cumb 4. Toribio - Hope 5. Kenny - John 6. James - CW I know that I probable ranked a some guys that graduated, I will fix it when I know for sure. Let's see if I can stimulate this forum a little. Here are some of my observations so far: 106: 1. Jonathan Celico is wrestling 126. 2. Collin Cardoso is at 120. 3. Derek Persechino has been at 113 and 120 This leaves 106 open somewhat... 113: 1. Nick Celico isn't wrestling as of yet. 2. Bloom is still at 113 which makes him the guy to beat. 3. Jerez is at 126. 120: 1. Stamos is at 126. 2. Ryan Gomez is at 138. 3. Leite is at 132. 126: 1. Brodeur is at 132. 2. Swanson is also at 132. 3. Stamos lost a head to head by pin to Jerez. 132: 1. Howard is at 138. 2. Caparco is at 152. 3. Lourenco is at 138. 4. Jacobsen is at 138 5. Leite pinned Swanson in a duel meet. 138: 1. O'Connell is at 145. 2. Howard is the favorite here. 145: 1. Ebed Jarrell is at 170. 2. Nethaneel Jarrell took the Wilson Cup as a freshman. 152: 1. Bivona won the Wilson Cup beating Luis Salazar in the finals by technical fall. 2. Short lost to West Warwick's Luis Salazar by decision at the Wilson Cup. 160: 1. Stewart is returning to 160. 2. Peoples is returning. 3. Thibaudeau is at 170. 170: 1. Ebed Jarrell took Silver at the Lowell Tournament making him the wrestler to beat. 2. Sauro is at 182. 182: 1. Sauro will be the wrestler to beat in this class 2. Potter is returning. 3. Lombardo will be in this class. 195: 1. Giorgio is returning. 2. Lombardo is at 182. 3. Martino is returning. 4. Pierce is returning. 5. Samek is at 220. 6. Pare is coming to this class from 220. 220: 1. Fenwick is returning 2. DeSantis is returning That's what I've observed so far. Comments?

Wildfire. I think you have it dead on. I will be updating ranking soon. However it is getting more and more difficult based on the fact that so many coaches are not sending in results to RIIL or projo. I am doing my best to come up with info. I have noticed that 106, and HW is wide open with much competition, 126 and 152 might have multiple contenders and almost all the other weight classes have a clear cut favorite. The matches that I am most interested in are 126: Soto vs Torres, 160: Stewart vs Peoples and 195 Giorgio vs Conti (though I have heard Conti is hurt again). Kinda a boring year so far. The following almost seem like locks 112: Bloom 120: Cardosa 138: Howard 145: O'Connell 152: DiMauro 170: Jerrell 182: Sauro 220: Fenwick

SK looks strong again this year. Bivona at 152, Pare at 195 and Brown at 285. Although Brown lost his matches to EP and Johnston today. Duran is a very light 160 and lasted with People's into OT. It was a great match.

FYI - Nick Celico is back, not sure what weight he is going. 195 is not a lock you have Pierce, Pare, Martino, Giorgio who are all close and Conte if he returns. Vigeant looks good at 182 he should be in the mix. Dylan DiSano @ 126 had a three time state finalist one time champ from New York on his heals at the end of the match it was 1 to 1 and he lost with seconds left on the clock. He looks good.

195 Urena has had close matches with losing by 1 or 2 points to Pierce last year in sectionals, Martino in the pilgrim futures tournament, and Pare at the Wilson cup.

I need some big matches.

Francis lasalle should be ranked at 60...kid is tough. Heard he beat peoples over the summer but that's third hand info.
Torres mt hope is at 32 he, soto and teves make for a tough bracket.
Forand is at 38 but has wrestled at 45 also. Don't think I saw him mentioned?
Hussey I think is at 120...brown ( frosh ) is a very good looking 120, he will win a lot of matches. His older bother nate at 38 will be in the mix.
Pare going to 95 is surprising...maybe bc giorgio went up? Not sure on that? Lombardo is at 95 also. That makes 95 a bit stronger.
Thibideau is at 70...not sure about to many other guys here...seems to be a lot of guys moving around here.

Hussey will be going 120 this year, along with Devin Rivet from BH, along with Brown (Cov). Peoples from EP has been wrestling 170. Lundstein is now at EP and weighing in around 170, so either one will change weight classes. Morvillo from Barrington has been wrestling HWT all year.
