Switch its not the kids that need convincing/educating as to what wrestling offers its the parents that are needed to get on board. Its the parents hat need to be convinced and then willing to support their children with the demanding schedule, training guidance in technique/strength/and endurance training/ the rite equipment, diet and supplementary needs, and always looking for rooms to practice where you can grow, it is a huge time and financial family commitment, with exceptional life long benefits for the ones that make the effort.

Anyone know what happened with the bottom half of the East Providence lineup? I heard from a North Providence parent the coach said that there was a stomach virus running through the team...runs on the mat isn't a good thing...

It is sad to see the decline in the number of wrestlers across the state. Many teams are unable to cover weight classes and although one might think this makes it easier to win a title, I think it * for wrestlers to face forfeit after forfeit or to not be tested until states. Out of state tournaments help but it was o ly a few years ago when weight classes were stacked. Is the decline due to cutting middle school programs or are kids just not interested in putting in the work it takes to be a great wrestler? The good news is QUALITY over QUANTITY right now. I'll predict RI has a nice showing at New England's this year. I see legitimate NE contenders at 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182. If you look around there are few "locks" from other states like you've had in the past. There is no Kevin Jack, Zach Bridson, Troy Gassaway, etc....

I agree we do have some serious quality this year, maybe not 152 but every other weight class you mentioned most definitely

Zach O'Connor from Hendricken will be the clear favorite at 195 and Cumberland's Skawinski should be 2nd in my opinion.

Zach O'Connor from Hendricken will be the clear favorite at 195 and Cumberland's Skawinski should be 2nd in my opinion. Is O'Connor B.H.'s official 195, they have been shuffling that weight class all season. Lundston from E.P has wrestled 195 three matches this season. If they both wrestle 195, and add Skawinski into th mix, now we will have an interesting 195. It was looking pretty bleak for a while. By know, the major contenders should be in their weight classes they will wrestle in the state tournament. Now, if all the coaches post their results on RIIL, and post their tournament results on this site, we would be able to get a pretty accurate ranking up on this board, and get some discussion going.

Sangare from cumb certified at 152 this week. He took third at their tournament losing to a kid out of state. Did anyone else notice anyone dropping this week. Wasn't it the last week to certify? Did bloom go to 120? Soto went 138 this weekend at Cumberland tournament

RI will be competing against the two best pound for pound in New England Eric Reyes of Ma and Max Odell of Ct. Reyes is a 3x state champion and New England Champion going for his 4th state title and 2nd New England Championship. Max Odell is a returning New England Finalist and 6th place finisher at Super 32. I don't see any 170 from Rhode Island who would be competitive against those two. Reyes and Odell are D1 Recruits.

Sawinski placed 1st at 195 at the Spartan. Do you know of a link to get the results of the Spartan? Go to MBR.org. This is the Maine sports forum. They have the results posted there. It's a paper tournament, so it is not on a website.
