There should be stronger rules so kids like Fenwick, Jarrell, Bloom and Teves cannot participate after sitting back, avoiding injuries and seeing where everyone else goes to pick the weight that that will give them the best opportunity for a win...At the very least, they should have to forfeit their seeding points from last year if they do not wrestle the majority of the season. These boys will come into States fresh and ready to wrestle while the rest of the wrestlers are banged up and bruised from actually wrestling the wrestling season. Getting 1st or 2nd seed for winning last year and not wrestling this year is a very unearned advantage in my opinion. Last year Fenwick got the 6th seed, he wasn't rewarded anything. I don't believe Jarrell has been awarded anything either, he is doing 2 sports (swim/wrestling) hampering him in wrestling which I think you'll see come states. IF Bloom and Teves are out with injury, then thats what the special circumstance rule is for.

I am not going to address programs or individuals specifically but do wonder at the seeding consequences of placing wrestlers based on previous seasons. If a kid has wrestled very few matches and those matches have not been competitive, I am not sure they should be seeded ahead of someone that wrestles the entire season and travels to the maximum allowed tournaments to face the best competition. These wrestlers may be better than the person who sits out; there is no way to tell. Last year is old news. I agree with an earlier post though that simply taking away seeding from established good wrestlers could mess up the entire bracket. Also, just wondering if anyone knows what is the first criteria weighed in seeding? Is it place finishing from past years or power points from current years? How does D1 vs D2 factor in? I know D1 usually gets the 1 seed but is that only if a D2 wrestler doesn't have a place finish previously? Thanks Power points seeded from highest to lowest, then start from the bottom and work up. If you beat the wrestler above you you keep climbing till you didn't beat the wrestler above you. Then to the second wrestler from the bottom, and so on. Special circumstance rule must be brought up before the weight class is seeded.

Well written Bloom. This is off topic of the thread and maybe should go else where, but since its already being discussed I'll add my 2cents. Bottom line is those kids have earned the right to do what they want with their season. In truth all but Fenwick are in DII and 80% of those weigh-ins are a waste of their time, my bigger concern is if they DONT get special circumstanced in they ruin someone else's tournament who may just be shooting to place, instead their bracket is ruined. So MikePeters, I think what Abe has succinctly stated, there are rules and they are playing by them, and really in truth without a strong team it makes the most sense. I'd say the only time its a bad thing is when it ruins someone elses seed, in their cases, it is for the divisions coaches to decide, hopefully they do the right thing. Unlike last year where Fenwick was seeded really low and ruined other kids rides to the finals. "Those kids have earned the right" seriously? How about Disano and Rivet? Have they earned the right to not risk injury and sit out until States? How about Caltigrone or Brown at Coventry? Should they just shut it down? Hussey already got hurt. He should have shut it down until February... Bad precedent all around. I think previous years should be disregarded and only current season should be considered for seeding at States. These kids have no motivation to wrestle given they know their seeds are locked up. Disano earned #1 seed through special circumstance rule last year over Brown for missing matches.

Salas over Cayo puts him @ 3rd @ 220. Wheeler and Porcaro split 1-1 this year with Porcaro placing higher at the Cumberland tourney (Porcaro pinned the kid that pinned Wheeler) puts Porcaro above Wheeler. Clarke with a win over Porcaro puts him at 2nd above Wheeler and Porcaro. Calise over Kavanaugh puts him @ 5th @ 182. Sangare over Harrison puts him @ 3rd @ 160. Tougas and Anderson were incorrectly listed at 145 they are both 152. Because of this Dougherty moves to 5th at 145 and and Bacalla moves to 6th. Holdredge is 4th as he has been having a strong season including two solid wins over Dougherty. Brown from NK beating Anderson makes rankings at 152 pretty messy. Anderson beat Tougas and Brown beat Anderson so Brown is 4th, Anderson 5th, and Tougas 6th. I think Tougas is a lot better wrestler than this ranking suggests wouldn’t be surprised to see him qualify for New Englands this year. Van Horn over Villanova puts him @ 4th @ 132. Wilcox winning a bracket with both Brayall and Kenney at the Cumberland tourney moves him up to 3rd @ 285. 160 Metcalf Cov beat Madden SK should be ranked. He's a sleeper & will make some noise 2nd half of the season. Tougas looked good taking a close 2nd @ Cumberland tournament. I agree & think he will do well placing top 3 @ states. 195 Hunt NP is out for the season due to injury. Rizzo NP has been wrestling 132 not 126 & McDowell Woon beat him @ NP tournament. I don't think Bloom, Tieves or Fenwick should be ranked until they actually certify & wrestle a match. Don't get me wrong, they are all 3 great & will place top 3 in their respective weights, but who knows when & where they will end up. Fenwick is rumored to be @ Cov & wrestling next week. If this is true then I don't see anyone @ 220 beating him. Does anyone know why Martino 220 BH isn't wrestling? Any word on Hussey?

Martino is training everyday for Football because he is doing a Post Grad year at Prep School next year. He would have wrestled heavy weight and not 220.

Troy Hawkins 106 from EWG has a great record and should be top 6. He has not faced any of the top 6 yet but sure he can certainly beat at least Iocubucci whos ranked 6. Consider looking at his matches.

Thanks for the update on Martino. I figured it was football-related since he competed in FB this year but was not listed on BH's wrestling roster. Does anyone know why Boesch and the older Arcand aren't wrestling for Hendricken, as they are listed on their roster. And is Frye going to wrestled for Coventry?

Kudos to Funkroll for doing a great job with the rankings.
Did Hawkins, EWG 106 beat Lombardo, Smith 106 ? Those are the top 2 D2 106 pounders.
113 Rodericks, CE is undefeated in D2 and should be ranked higher. He will finish top 3 @ 113 this season. A dark horse candidate.
120 Leonard, Barr is undefeated in D2 and has pinned all of his opponents in the first period, but he keeps slipping in the rankings. Another dark horse candidate for top 3 @ 120.
145 Gosselin, Burr is also undefeated in D2, destroying all of his opponents and is unranked. A dark horse candidate as a state place finisher this year as a sophomore.
Estrada, Barr, is still going to physical therapy and has not been practicing yet. Hussey, EP is apparently off crutches but cast is still on. Not sure of return yet.

SK 170 wrestled a different kid than listed at four so I am not sure about the kid he beat but he doesn't appear to be ranked. More interesting at 170 is that Hayes from Cumberland beat Lancaster from Mount Hope. That whole weight class will need to be revisited.
