Pre- Dual meet Action Rankings A lot is still up in the air, especially with most teams not even wrestling yet and so dont know where kids will be. Bishop Hendricken is by far the biggest question with many kids graduating and a lot of their light guys being young and probably growing a weight class or two. The middle and light upper weights are pretty spotty with the majority of place finishers from last year being gone. Also tried to reflect some of the kids that have moved or switched schools.
I will try and update these weekly at first seeing where kids are, then as Certification date hits bi-weekly

I honestly forgot about Fry he'll be on the board next round, Clarke it'll be about if he can get down to 113, otherwise he cant be on the board as his teammates are there. Gaudiana may go up one spot but not above Nappi or Young until he beats one of them or they lose. Nappi may not even be at this weight.
As for Merritt that would be putting him above a lot of state paper. Winning the wilson cup without going through Holland (yes I know the kid he beat beat him) isn't exactly a huge reason to put him above a 3, 4, 5, from last year, lets let him beat someone first.

Just some thoughts. 106 Don't underestimate Joziah Fry. He's undersized but could upset some folks if he hits a throw being a judo kid. 113 Merritt, has been wrestling since he was in the womb so I think I'd put him up at #2. I think his experience will come into play. 120 Where is Mason Clarke going? Not sure if he's at 120 but if so, keep an eye out for him. Has potential. 126 Gaudiana, should probably be higher but we'll see how that shakes out. He looked pretty dominant at Mount Hope taking first place and beating some good competition. Agreed, Guadiana and Fallon both tore up the Mt Hope, very impressive Fallon is rightfully #1 and Guadiana should be at #2 behind Young for now even though Young won't be at 126. Also agreed that Fry will be tough at 106 he sbhoukd fit into the rankings somewhere. Holland is at 113 and Watts at 120. There should be some interesting wrestle offs for pilgrim with Castaldi a returning placer at 113 also factoring in. All 3 of those kids are pretty even and I would assuming are competing to fill 113 and 120. Merrit should definitely move up higher than fifth once he gets some matches under his belt. Lynch should be higher than 6 at 132 definitely before Hamilton and Bautista. DelBonis should be ranked at 195 returning place finisher will be a real contender this year.

Thoughts....
BH Nappi going 120 Rivet going 138 Disano going 145
Pilgrim If Holland cant make the cut back to 106 their projected lineup will be
113 Holland 120 Capaldi 126 Watts
Moses Brown Did they find the biggest loop hole yet? Bloom and Tieves is not on their roster yet. If their added not until February, they will only have to make weight once. Both of them could wrestle only one match and they will be seeded #1 in their weight class...not fair
North Kingstown Don't sleep on the NK's big three at 195, 220, Hwt. All three of them Gincastro (195) Ruggieri (220) Brown (HWT) could represent NK in the finals
Lincoln Tyler Balon at 182 is pound for pound one of the toughest (mentally and physically) wrestlers in RI this season
Coventry Fenwick, really?? When did RI wrestling add free agency? I guess in order to beat Bishop Hendricken, you might as well recruit too
*If you include La Salle and Pong that's three previous state place finishers transferred along with 2 outstanding freshman this season

It's annoying and unfair to the rest of the state. They basically decide to take the whole year off, see where all of the tough wrestlers are going, let them beat up on one another and then when they feel the need too/have to make weight once, then get a "special circumstance" high seed and are all well and good for state tournament time. Make the weight and wrestle all season long just like everyone else. In my opinion, they are only hurting themselves in the long run and aren't truly getting the life experience of being a wrestler and are missing the daily grind of cutting while trying to maintain their lives as student-athletes.

Sangare pinned by Kavanaugh not a surprise. This Sangare brother is a sophomore just back to wrestling last 2 weeks. He will improve. The Sangare that was expected to win, pinned his guy. No surprises there.

Thanks to "FUNK" for putting together a solid ranking sheet. I'd only make a couple of changes. Pono has to go #1 over Hendi #2, and La Salle has to go at 4 as the upper weights of La Salle spanked Coventry's uppers. I mean looking at the box scores, Coventry won the first 6 matches and lost the next 8 in a row. That's a heart breaker for a coach. You simply cannot be competitive when stuff like that happens. It's a shame too, because Coventry is solid down low. Now, for 113, I have no conclusive evidence to point to but, Merritt will beat BH's Williams. He may not be #1 yet but he should be. As for Fenwick, is he in Coventry? You have him listed there. Not trying to step on anyone's toes but there has been a lot of action of recently and I haven't seen rankings in a while so i'll give it a crack, first full rankings of the season: Team (Tourney) Rankings (Based ((Approximately)) off of placement points according to individual power rankings): 1) Hendi 2) Pono 3) Pilgrim 4) Coventry 5) Cumberland Note: 1 and 2 were very close with 3 not being too far behind. 106 1) Fallon LSA 2) Holland Pil 3) Lavallee John 4) Reilley Cumb 5) Fry Cov 6) Iacabucci BH 113 1) Williams BH 2) Passante Cumb 3) Merritt Char 4) Watts Pil 5) Rodrick CE 6) Skiffington SK 120 1) Hussey EP 2) Wheeler NP 3) Clark COV 4) Castaldi PIL 5) Lenoard Barr 6) Porcaro Cumb 126 1) Caltagirone Cov 2) Guadiana LSA 3) Nappi BH 4) A.Rizzo NP 5) McDowell Woon 6) Bonanno West 132 1) Brown Cov 2) Zuller Pil 3) Villanova Pon 4) Kelly Cumb 5) Hamilton WW 6) Mallon Mt. I do believe Fenwick will be at Coventry been hearing that rumor for a while now.
I did the team rankings according to how many place finishers each team is projected to have and how high those finishes would be , the weakness of that being that it fails to account for wrestlers that score points for their team while failing to place and for bonus points. Team rankings definitely up for discussion I just found that to be the most systematic way to do it for the time being.

Couldn't agree more with eptownies. Hussey is a great kid and a great wrestler. Its horrible that it happened his senior year. i wouldn't be surprised if he makes it back for states.

Good luck to Hussey, he's a great kid
First of all, I want to say thank you for doing the rankings and getting the conversation started
Random Ranking Thoughts:
145 Dougherty from Chariho beat Lyons from Sk in the 3rd/4th match at South County. Both of them should be battling for 5th/6th this season
220 Eckert from Pil should be off the rankings. Had two "bad losses" to both Charhio and Woon at South County Tournament.
Both Cayo Tolman and NP Caden Jolcimat should be ranked Dont forget Lanigan CE, only one match away last year from placing Lopez is going 220 so far this season
Seems like there are plenty of 220 this season making the "bracket" intersting
220 Fenwick Ruggeri Taft Lopez Cayo Jolcimat Hm Lanigan
Was there any wrestling at all this week?

Apparently I sent a PM to 2poundsover rather than a post reply, but there were several tournaments last week including at least two that involved RI teams: the Lowell Holiday tournament which Mt. Hope attended, and the Marshfield, Mass. tourney that Cumberland won. I've posted results in the Brackets section. Also, some of the scores from the Chariho-SK-Johnston-EP quad Dec. 29 are posted on RIIL.org.
