Congratulations to all of the 2017 Wrestling State Champs!!!!!!
A huge thanks to funkroll for doing a great job with the rankings this year.
Porcaro should have been the OW at the tourney. Being a 5 seed and defeating the "favorite" to win the 120 title says it all. Nobody said Porcaro was going to win and he deserved the OW.
A huge congratulations to all of the D2 state place finishers this year too!!!
106 Lombardo 5th
113 Roderick 4th
120 Leonard 5th
126 McDowell 2nd Gordillo 6th 145 Gosselin 3rd Cyler 6th
152 Teves 1st K. Brown 4th
160 Bloom 3rd
182 Balon 3rd
195 Floyd 5th
220 Cayo 1st
285 Brayall 6th
Good luck to all the RI wrestlers at the New Englands this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
---On a side note, I sure hope Narraganssett gets dropped down to D2. Having Toll Gate drop down to D2 instead of Narragansett was a frickin joke. Narragansett has no right to be in D1. Something needs to be done about that. It is a disgrace to those D2 teams that do deserve to be in D1, but aren't.

Behaegal over J. Griggs 220 - B. Whitley over A. Marquis 285 - N. Martino over C. Cabrera I think Merritt in the finals is a little bit of a stretch hope he proves me wrong but that's my opinion. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fallon in the finals he has Cody Craig as a semi-finals match, he lost to Craig 4-3 on a last second (questionable) take down earlier this year in Maine.

After a 3rd place finish at New England's it'll be hard to not consider Fallon the #1 P4P wrestler in RI next year considering the only RI wrestler to place higher than him (Martino) is graduating. Fallon looked really impressive against some tough competition wouldn't be surprised if he won it next year.

Good analysis, but there were other RI place-winners, notably Rivet of BH placing for the second year in a row at 138, though 4th this time. Lost in the semis to previous champ Kane 5-3 in OT, then for 4th was majored by Kovac of Danbury 11-2. Surprisingly one-sided match but Kovac is really good, losing by a point to 3X champ Kane in CT Open tournament. Kane lost only 3 matches in 3 years, 2 to Beaulieu of Maine who beat him for NE champ.
Wrzisien of CH was impressive finishing 4th at 182, losing only to champ Tawro of NH, then returning NE place-winner Cousino of VT in consolation finals. I think all three placers above him are seniors.
Also, Wilcox was 6th at 285, best overall showing by RI heavies in decades! Wilcox lost in the first round then won 4 straight matches (one a default) including 2-1 win over Brown of NK by a point in the round to place, a reversal of their RI tourney semis. Brown also lost in first round and won three straight! BTW, all place-winners in this weightclass were from either Connecticut (4) or RI (2); no Mass guys.

Fallon is good & could be up for consideration, but Brown 132 a 3x state finalist, 1x state champion & 3x NE place finisher should be at #1 P4P. He dominated competition in RI this year & I'm sure will do so again next year. Rivet 138 would be a close second P4P 2x state champion & 2x NE placer. These kids have proven they are the best in RI & wrestling the best in NE holding their own. Congratulations to all of the RI wrestlers who placed at NE & champ at 285.

Forgot about Seth, is he a senior? If not than I would agree with putting him #1 P4P with Fallon #2.

P4P is for this year, doesn't matter who are seniors.
P4P- Martino (senior) Brown (junior), Rivet (junior) with Brown having the toughest tourney: 4 #1s and a #2, but have to give it to Martino for being the NE Champ. I would rather only name 1 or 2 kids for P4P, but if have to go 3 pick Rivet because I feel Brown and Rivet would likely place All American at NHSCA, but Fallon would just come up short. Level of competition in NE at 106 just isn't as tough this year as 132 and 138.
Fallon wrestled tough this weekend, although the match with Craig appeared to be a bit of a mismatch. Would have like to see how he faired against other freshman Jack who gave Craig a tough 3-1 match.
