Obviously these rankings are for fun, but it does give the casual fan an idea of who the guys to beat are. The power points are obviously the best way too rank guys which for the first time are available to coaches as the teams go. In years past the power points only came out at the end of the year. With that said coaches as usual are slow at best in getting their results in so they aren't always accurate.
To answer a previous question ....power points are earned for forfeits. They ate also earned for wins out of the weight class....but you don't earn as many from what I understand.

A couple of other factors to consider is that guys that have been injured for a large part of the season can appeal to the state for a seed exception Bc power points have not been accrued. So Johnston can ask that Conte get the 2nd seed bc of his placement last year, same with soto And anyone else in that predicament.

Lets hope that plays out that way ! But whatever their seed I am sure both will fare well !!!! This is a fun part of the season but most wrestlers have already gained the discipline to carry them thru life if they have been around for a bit. Win with Pride lose with Dignity !!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the best men are already on the Mat !!!!

Hendricken just literally destroyed Cumberland I heard !!!!!!!!!!! Hendricken is surely the team to beat in the State and this yr it is just not happening in my opinion.

Hendricken is no joke!! This team can wrestle. I predict the next 4x state champ in the 126 disano. I am a warwick vets fan but got to give credit where credit is due. Also I would like to mention ed pierce of tolgate hard worker dedicated to always doing better you will see him in the finals. GO EDDY!!!! I also predict davin lorenco to to be in finals and win states its his year and I never been more proud of someone with all he been and going through, tough as nails

Last night, Stephenson from TG defeated Young from NP. But in an upset, the little 4 foot, 90# Leonard kid from Barrington defeated Stephenson 5-1. That Leonard kid has some tough losses to Young NP 9-5, Young Cov 5-2, Baptista Cumb 5-2. Horrible losses to Mountain LSA and Hamilton WW and in the first match of the season, he got pinned by Nappi BH (only time pinned all year). Too many losses to be ranked, but always fun to watch wrestle. Got to love the little underdogs and it Looks like that little guy is peaking at the right time now.

Hendricken is good because they are allowed to have students attend their school from the whole state and parts of massachusetts. They shouldnt be competing in RI.

Just checking results. Bivona and Duran flip flopped at 152 and 160 again. It will be interesting to see where these two go at states. Bivona is for real and could shake up 160.
Good to see Jon Soto back for Johnston. I think 138 will be great to watch at States.
Hendricken looks tough but don't forget a great dual meet team does not automatically mean a great tournament team. They have two sure things: N. Celico and Sauro. Beyond that no one in their lineup is unbeatable. I know they ran away with it last year but Davol, Boesch, and Sauer are gone and J. Celico will not be scoring big points for them this year. That's 95 points missing from last year. Can freshmen Rivet and Disano replace Davol and Celico's points?

Those are good questions, particularly about the points BH lost from last year, but look at the rankings. Currently every Hendricken wrestler is ranked in the top five (depending if Jacobson drops after losing to the lower-ranked McCarron), so it is conceivable that every one of their guys could place at States. I don't think that's been done, at least not with the current 14 weight classes. As for scoring points, I expect that Jacobsen, Arruda and Johnson will score more points than they did last year, DiMauro about the same even if he does make the finals, and while Jon Celico likely won't get the pin points at 132 he did at 106, their lightweights all seem to be pinners. Cole is not Sauer, but based on his season he could finish top 4 ... or go 1-2 and out. Who knows? That's why they wrestled the matches and why this is the funnest time of year!
To me the more interesting question is who are the other top tournaments team? It makes sense to look to Cumberland and SK with their dual meet records and balance, but while they have a lot of potential scorers, who are their almost-certain finalists? Giorgio and Bivona look like locks; after that it's a little harder to pick. Yet how about Mt. Hope, and even 5-6 Johnston. Each have three guys (with Conte and Soto back) who have legitimate shots at getting into the finals. Get a couple of more placers on those teams and you can pile up some numbers in a tournament. Can Chariho make some noise on a team basis with everyone contributing against the best in the state? Who are the other contenders?

If you want to go by the rankings, there are a few teams with enough contenders to compete. If Johnston gets Soto, Caparco, Ribezzo & Conte in the finals could they make it close? Coventry gets Young, Brown, and Brodeur to the finals? Mt Hope gets Cardosa, Torres, Lombardo, and Fenwick?

Hendricken is good because they are allowed to have students attend their school from the whole state and parts of massachusetts. They shouldnt be competing in RI. This gets me thinking, eliminate private schools and how would it effect public school teams. Put kids back on their hometown teams. How good would Mt Hope be with Cam Nappi and Nick Teves? How about Westerly with Abe Bloom and the Celico brothers? How about others?

Johnston would have Dimaro, Martino, this year along with other top guys.

Now we're thinking. EP would have Rivet, SK would have DiSano, and Narragansett would have Sauro. Hendricken can get any High School student in the state of RI to wrestle for them, while every other school is only allowed to get athletes from their hometown. They are the RI State All Star team, and are playing with a different set of rules than everyone else.
