This brings to mind a serious question; could a wrestler take advantage of the rules and sit out until states to avoid the wear and tear of a full season? Would the benefits outweigh the obvious drawback being the lack of live competitive wrestling and any seeding repercussions? Is there a minimum match requirement and if not should there be?

No kids should not be punished for injuries. And no, sitting out till states would be a horrible decision....you can't get in wrestling shape with out wrestling live matches. Kids coming back mid season have a hard enough time getting back into shape. Never mind the end of the season.

I bring it up because it seems like every year there are more and more kids who don't make an appearance until just before states. I understand the live wrestling argument, which is why I referenced drawbacks in my initial question, but you can't underestimate the effects the wear and tear of a full dual meet season can have. Some kids will have wrestled 40 matches by the time states arrives and others may have 4 or 5. So the 40 match wrestler has an automatic advantage over the 5 match wrestler?
Also, not every kid making a late appearance is due to injury. For some it may have been grades, disciplinary actions by their school, weight, etc. I don't think a kid should be punished for an injury but I also think a kid who has wrestled throughout the season should not be at a disadvantage come time for states.

Wrestlers that want to succeed at a high level wrestleadd many matches a year as they can...that's how they stay crisp. Wrestlers that are successful at a high level wrestle an additional 0,30,40 matches in the off-season....so no I don't buy in to the argument that 40 matches is a hindrance come states. Just my opinion. I would hope many of them are looking past states and wanting 3,4,5 more matches the weekend after.

I was at a Warwick City practice today and I overheard an interesting rumor. Altieri possibly bumping to 126. How big of a wrench would that throw into the works at that weight? Anyone care to venture how D1 would seed that bracket if that were the case? It could screw up some team points if he caught a current 1-3 seed in the early rounds...

The way I saw him practice today, going 120 or 126 won't matter. The kid looked like a beast on a mission...

Don't you have to certify at least once in the weight class you are going to wrestle in the state tournament??? He got hurt in his second duel meet, and has not wrestled since. I am not trying to start anything, but I am curious on the rule.

Most cases yes but with injuries there are exceptions.

Certification is only a requirement to wrestle at the lowest possible weight. Since he is certified at 120, he is eligible for any weight above that as long as he weighs the appropriate amount.

Are people forgetting about Lincoln's 26. I would not be in a hurry to wrestle him. I can see him in the NE finals.

Spiral, all your predictions are very possible. 145 is a stacked weight class. Any of the top 5 could win it all. There relly isn't a favorite. In my opinion the field at 106 is wrestling for 2nd place behind Cardosa. Lourenco is very talented, however I would be surprised if he beats Celico, though upsets happen in the finals, every year

Does anyone know how many wrestlers a school can enter in states per weight class? I believe that only one can count towards team points but was wondering if there was a limit to how many could be entered.
