My understanding is the people running the event in Mass for the past 5 plus years were supposed to give up the event to RI a year or two ago. RI wasn't ready and Mass kept it with the understanding that they would need to turn it over to RI - then Ct. and the event would rotate thru NE. The People running the event in Mass didn't want to give up the revenue. They decided to hold the event in NH but the same people are running the event- Keeping the revenue.. No one has ever seen the P&L In years past the $$ generated from the event would be used to buy Mats for schools.. In recent years its not known where the money is going. what's the RIGHT thing to do ?

there is more to it then that, yes mass agreed to move tournament, it was going to nh who did not think they could handle it , so then it was agreed on that it would go to ri, but then mass said they would run it for nh if they had a site, so nh eneded up keeping it, the school hosting the site gets some money and the people running the tournament get some money , the mass people will not get all money , in high school the new england board runs the tournament and they move it to host schools , the money goes to the new england board who runs and the host school makes money, really all this could of been worked out if everyone acted like adults , yes ia is money ri could of used but it didn't end up happening this year, so now in 2 years when ri should have it what is going to happen then , dose ri think the other states are going to just forget that they pulled out and come to ri then, maybe this wasn't fair or right the way it has all happened and Ri got the short end , but it is all about the kids, the poltics should be worked out that the wrestlers do not get caught in the middle, and thats what is happening here, it is still not too late to fix this,

dose ri think the other states are going to just forget that they pulled out and come to ri then.. Exactly and I can't see that both new england tournaments are going to be able to coexist over time and with only 2 of the 6 states being USA wrestling, chances are we're going to be on the short end. The other states don't want to pay the extra money for a 1 day membership for wrestlers and coaches.

I was just looking at the two flyers, the weight classes aren't even the same at the two tournaments! The original New Englands in NH lists on their flyer that all wrestlers must wrestle at or above their state-weight, but we have nothing listed on the USA New England flyer on how to address the different wt classes at the various state championships. How will kids from other states even technically qualify for it if not at same weight classes. Should just call it the RI/CT tournament since we're the only ones uses those weight classes. Someone didn't think this through. Ridiculous

Rhode Island is a USA State and uses the weights that USA follow.

I would venture to say none of the top 3 place winners in usa states will be wrestling in RI, so where does that leave the RI tournament, empty would be my guess. Unless some one wanted an easier "so called" New England title. Put an end to the turmoil and work on a solution for next year.

The more I hear the more aggrivated I get. The Mass /NH or whatever it is ,is not a USA event? They charged for USA membership cards last yr and kept over 90% of the proceeds? The RI / CT tournament is a USA Tournament? Hold the RI tournament on a different day, go to thje mass tournament and take the titles, most of which will come to RI and CT anyway, (ya thats rite), and let them try to come and take em back. GAME ON, lets wrestle, move the RI & CT tourn to anothor day, it will be a successful event and none of the kids will miss out.

Everyone will go to wrestle at which tournment they want. Is that really a true statement? I know in years past, with my older kids our board had to submit names and placing information from our states campionship to the new england group. Will they still send our information if they are boycotting the tournament? Or are they holding us hostage to the USA New Englands?

As a representative from the original New England Tourney being held in Nashua NH I would like to say a few things:
Much has been said here that is simply not true - For the record:
We want RI Wrestlers to come to Nashua NH!
We want to work with RI in future but need it to meet a format continuing our involvement to ENSURE the quality of the tourney does not change and it is indeed about the kids and running a high quality tourney at a reasonable price
Much has been slung about regarding money - organizations connected with running this tourney make substancial amounts for their organizations. Many individuals who work for this tourney are paid small amounts.
Go to ynew.org for any information you need about our tourney
Past placers from the last six years of our tourney are posted in pdf format on the website
We welcome CT and RI Wrestlers - we want them at our tourney!! We want to work with CT and RI in the future!
Your State placing will matter in our seeding - note it on your online registration!
You will have to register yourself for the tourney online at ynew.org - your state organization will not be sending a list of qualifiers
Weight classes do not match up exactly, so wrestle in the nearest class to your state weight (without cutting down a class)
We have the same main administrative crew running our tourney alongside the fine folk of Nashua who have run many of their own tourneys
KAP Wrestling will be "doing" our tourney and online registration thru ynew.org - their reputation is well known for quality!
We are adding 3rd and 4th Grade wrestlers to this years tourney - check it out at ynew.org!
We are adding 2 "Challenge Cup" trophies to be taken home each year by the Town and Wrestling Club Champions Respectively! They will be engraved and return to the tourney each year...
We have added two very cool, 3 by 5 banners for the Town and Club Champions to hang in their gym and/or club after winning the team race for New Englands!!!
We hope to work with RI Folk in the future - This tourney could help an organization greatly

From there, follow the instructions to register online (you don't have to actually register to see the tournament roster). The link will take you to Kapwrestling.net. Once you're there, click View Tourney Rosters, then select the Youth New Englands from the drop-down menu. Like the competition? Then get signed up pronto!

We'll be going to NH. No question that's where the better competition is going to be. Have been to this tournament for a few tears now and it is always very well run. Hoping my son finally gets one of those hoodies!
