My prediction for heavyweight sleeper of the tournment...Big Bad Robbie Connolly from tollgate HS...He is a very special wrestler...He does not see nor think like many of these other wrestlers and that's why he will go the distance...he will not be intimidated...he will not lay down and he will give it his 110%...AND MOST OF ALL HE IS A GENTLEMAN THAT GOES FAR BEYOND MANY. (Just imagine if we could have had him for 4 years, its his only first year wrestling)...GOOD LUCK ROBBIE...

as the saying goes "Old Friends Stick Together" if a guy is a terrible ref but going to give me every call in the book i would not hesitate to vote him in for states as a coach and this is what needs to stop!!!! lets get the best officials not the best friends and progress RI wrestling...it is funny that the only coach to get a call overturned all weekend was not a coach but an official last year!!!!!! (AND NOT TO MENTION HE WAS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!) i vote NK coach to ref states next year lol

lets not forget either that the NK coach got a call overturned after the cumberland coach did. No offense to coach gordan, who is a great coach, but the match had ended and he said something which caused the refs to give lacriox a point and the match to go to overtime. NK's coach, being an experienced ref, had the point overturned because he knew the rules. All weekend that happened, with coaches getting calls to go their way because of refs, especially stalling calls which were ridiculously high and finally in the 189 final a bogus call got overturned. WE NEED BETTER REFS.(PERIOD)

Thanks for the info. Thats unfortunate...Tony's great, I'm sure it was the right thing to do. That was a wrestling family, if I got this right... I think there were cousins from SK that were all real good.

yes. julians cousin was conner nelson from SK, he was a state champ, and i truly believe if julian had taken the sport seriously he could of been a state champ this year and actually gotten somewhere in NE. i wrestled with julian for 3 years and even with me being 80lbs heavier he could still compete with me and sometimes win. I just wish he could of taken the sport as serious as he does with school and baseball.

I had the opportunity to talk with the ref who made the call and everything the happened was perfectly legit and resonable. Referee's first impression Jason Zeramby stepped off the line before Tom LaCroix moved forward causing the ref to give Zeramby a caution. The referee should have awarded a point to LaCroix right there, but forgot that it was Zeramby's third caution. After the restart Coach Gordon informed the assistant ref about the mistake who brought it to the attention of the head ref and the point was awarded...tie match, we are going to overtime. NK Coach goes to the table NK Assistant Coach John Hamilton, former RI ref and ref out of NY brings the official to the table for a conference At the table Coach Hamilton states the LaCroix had his right hand on the mat infront of his lead foot, to which the referee agrees. having a hand down on the mat infront of the starting line is an ILLEGAL starting position. The referee went to the rule book to make sure and when he did it was determined that Zeramby's movement off the line could not be called a false start since LaCroix was never in a legal starting position... so the caution was taken away from Zeramby and thus the penalty point... 5-4 Zeramby wins! |
