My projections for the 2019-20120 wrestling season. These are just projections. There will be plenty changes I bet but this should be something decent until the season kicks off. I hope you guys enjoy and give your input. I’ll hear everyone out and adjust a lot after week 1 + 2.
Team Race
1. Cumberland
2. Hendricken
3. Ponagansett
4. Coventry
5. Hope
Other contenders- NK/MH
I like the team race projections. I would like to see BH roster submitted, but I'm sure they will be loaded, just might not be as loaded as Cumberland.
I see Cumberland with an opportunity to run away with states and put them self in a great position at New Englands. It will be interesting to see where the weight classes fill out. As is currently posted:
126 - Gillis
138 - Reily
138 - Passannante
145 - Lynch
152 - Santos
152 - Salisbury
152 - St. Godard
160 - Faria
170 - Shaw
This team has 6 HW and 6 145 on their current roster. Very well balanced, and very tough technical wrestlers.
Ponagannset looks to very strong but their roster has holes that you dont see in CHS and wont see in BH. They have one of the best Fr. Classes in state. The 160 is a Fr. who isn't listed on the roster yet, but should be a podium placer all 4 years. I'm not 100 % that he is on the team so I'll hold back from mentioning his name until I see him on their box score or roster submission. Ponagannset will have places in at least 5 weight classes. The issue they run into is the nationally ranked talent they will run into in those classes. 106, 113, 126, 138, 160. Similar to Hope and BH I cant get into to much detail about the the depth of their lineup as it's not up to date and has 7th and 8th graders listed on it.
Coventry is another team that will be interesting to watch these first couple weeks. Currently It looks like:
106 - H. MYERES
113 - L. Lagasse
120 - Fry
126 - Robichaud
132 - Clarke
138 - Remolina
Obviously Fry could drop to 113 and swap out with Lagasse, but who knows. 120 Could be a great spot for Fry as he prepares for a D1 college program.
145 - Rutherford
145 - Vesey
Vesey has always wrestled a lower weight but could have easily bulked up. Be interesting to see which of these two stay or go up to 152.
After that
170 - Volitile
170 - Walton
Volitile is a Jr. that is coming back from an injury that had him miss his entire So. year. He has the fight to make some noise I could easily see him on the podium.
Walton is a Fr. who has a lot of raw talent and the muscle to hang around.
I dont know if either could make 160 but both will help Coventry earn points at states.
Coventry also has Masstrofine on their roster at 220. He has plenty of ability and will have a battle at 220 with Raybock-Barber.
They have a solid HW in Sanford to round them out. This is one of the deeper Coventry lineups in a couple years.
The other roster that looks like trouble for anyone is North Kingstown.
113 - Floody
132 - Shartner
152 - A. Zarrella
160 - Kobe Gallman
170 - S. Ford
195 - Kai Gallman
220 - Tortora
285 - Wojtyszynga
Lots of wins at states amongst that group and some major improvement by the couple stepping up.
Floody is for sure a Fr. to watch and will help balance the roster that typically is very deep in the heavier weights.
Hope dosnt have their roster submitted yet so I cant comment too much on the structure of the team. I said a couple times last season that I thought Hope was a year away. I stand by that but I would like to see how that team is put together. They cant be called an underdog any longer. Just like last season they pull Ponagannset in an early season duel. That should be a fun one.
I think Mt. Hope is going to shock some people with how deep and how dominant there line up is looking. The biggest issue I see for them is keeping all the young talent committed.
113 - Gomes
120 - Bland
120 - Mason Furtado
126 - Mallon
132 - McClain
132 - Pacheco
138 - McGovern
145 - Riley Furtado
145 - Brooks
182 - Grifka
195 - Bennett
220 - Pitts
285 - Jenness
Mt. Hope has depth in all the middle weight classes. 120 will be tough who ever wins, 132 is another battle of Fr. In both weight classes, 120 and 132, they will be Fr. To watch. 145 is a battle for sure. Brooks is a top tier wrestler who has been off the roster for a couple of seasons but has everything he needs to challange Furtado for that spot. Whom ever takes it should be on the podium at states. The other could easily move up and challenge for the 152 and just as likly follow suit.
The guy that is worth watching most for me is the HW, Attley Jenness. He started wrestling last season as a Fr. He had a couple of wins at states. He will be an issue for a majority of the HW's. Especially those who were fortunate enough to catch him at the beginning of last season. They will not be wrestling the same guy this time around.
The only other team I see separating from the pack like those listed above is Chariho.
113 - Husing
145 - Merritt
152 - Bonanno
170 - Dougherty
195 - Marchione
220 - Gardner
My team power rankings
1- Cumberland
2- BH
(Each team will likly have 8 or more on the podium including at least 3 in the finals)
(Next tier)
Coventry - Hope - Chariho
Mt Hope - Ponagannset
North Kingstown
(At least 2 in the finals and/or up to 5 on the podium)
(Possible top 10)
East Providence- Cranston West
Barrington - North Providence
Woonsocket- South Kingstown
(All 6 of these teams have at least 2 or 3 top 3 placers imo)
