What is everyone’s state finals predictions before the brackets come out, and what do you guys think of weights like 120, 132, and 138 where everyone has been in there with each other for the most part(besides Fry and Clarke being ahead of everyone) do the lower ranked guys at those weights have legitimate shots at being top 3?

Clarke has already pinned or majored everyone in D1 so the proof is in the pudding and 120 is going to be insane.

That’s true about Clarke, how about 2-6 at that weight is that anyone’s game because I believe top 6 at 132 is very deep. Personally I don’t think anyone not ranked has much of a shot at placing but do you believe any of them can?

Any dark horses to watch out for this weekend in different wight classes as upsets do happen. For sure some dark horses to keep an eye on, they have the potential to come either a match away or place at their weight and this is just to name a few. Burke (Pil) Maguire (Cumb) Vesey (Cov) Silva (BH) Balon (Linc) Schartner (NK) Defusco (CW) Montefusco (CW) Corrales (Woon) Wilson (TG) Perrault (TG) Hunter (TG) Andres (WW) Alcindor (Woon) Gregorian (LSA) Faria-Meade (CE) Decotis (CW) Just about any heavyweight who comes to wrestle the day of states for the spots 3-6. I don’t understand how Viera(Lincoln 113) was left off, I believe he beat Decotis

And I agree for the most part at 132 but you never know just recently a north prov kid beat Stephenson in their dual so theres one who could sneak in at 5th 6th or even higher

120 is pretty messed up. Don’t understand how sclama gets the 5 when he beat cook, who is somehow the 2. Should be 1) fry 2) Reigosa 3) sclama 4) cook

120 is pretty messed up. Don’t understand how sclama gets the 5 when he beat cook, who is somehow the 2. Should be 1) fry 2) Reigosa 3) sclama 4) cook They seed them based on powerpoints, then only if you’re close in powerpoints will head to head wins matter. So let’s say you’re third in powerpoints, and you beat the kid with the most powerpoints but you didn’t beat the kid in second, you don’t get to jump to the number 1 spot. But let’s say you beat the kid with the second most power points, you can jump him and get the 2 spot. Having an undefeated record also puts you up. Reigosa, Cook, and Scalma all have losses. But Scalma didn’t face Bland from MH

With states just two days away, what are everyone’s finals predictions

The finals I think will follow pretty much along the ranking/seedings. What I can't figure out is the finish of teams. This seems like the hardest season to predict in a long time since there are so many top teams with outstanding individuals. I don't think Hendricken should be considered the favorite anymore since they lost Maroney and Guerrero at the beginning of the month and neither place-winner from last season will be in the State tournament. BH still has their big 4 (3 of whom are NHSCA All-Americas) but while all 4 will make the finals barring any huge upset, the rest of their line-up have pretty tough seeds as evidenced by Sclama's 5th place seed and much lower seeds for the rest of the line-up (other than Meade who seems to be where he should be at 4th) such as the recently returned Kuprevich at 12. Those power points are crucial in State seeding, whereas Funkmaster's season-long ratings are based more on merit from head-to-head match-ups. So those consolation place-points that have propelled Hendricken to several championships over the last decade will be much harder to come by.
Cumberland seems really well positioned. They have 4 wrestlers with top-2 seeds and point scorers up and down their line-up. They actually have senior returning place-winners at the first two weight classes; when does that happen? I count 9 seniors in their line-up of which a staggering 8 are seeded in the top four. Add top seeded junior Faria and it seems clear they are the team to beat.
The rest of the top team lineups almost seem interchangeable in a manner of perspective, with similar numbers of likely place-winners versus unlikely place-winners/non-scorers. Ponaganset seems the next most impressive team with the most top-2 seeds of any team with 5, and several more in the top-4. But they don't have the top-to-bottom consistency of Cumberland, although they may have more team firepower than Hendricken at this point. Coventry has four top-2 including All-New England and All-Americas Fry and Clarke, and they've improved their middle and upper weights with Rutherford, Vessey and Walton, but while they and the upper weights can score some points placing will be crucial if Coventry is to be a top 3 team. Hope has only two top seeds in Feliz and two-time champ Guarcas but has several other top-4 seeds and more importantly, an entire line-up that can score points at almost every weight class. Chariho has 3 top seeds, all favored to win their weights, but not many other entrants that are likely place-winners. Mount Hope has some impressive individuals led by Grifka but few other likely place-winners. I think it will take longer for this tournament to shape up into a clearer picture. Usually the top three teams and even their order are pretty well known by the completion of the semi-finals, but this year I think the fates of about six contending teams will need all the Sunday consolation matches to give a clearer picture by the finals.

Maybe I used the wrong word by saying “lock” to win a state title. So I’ll make my State title predictions. 106- Joyce 113- Gillis 120- Fry 126- Fallon 132- Clarke 138- Remolina 145- Merritt 152- Faria 160- Fine 170- Dougherty 182- Grifka 195- Marchione 220- Bailey 285- Betencor was only one off at 138. Congrats to all the State Champs!!

Great State tourney! Loved the Saturday Sunday setup felt like it was better for all the wrestlers. Congrats to all the State Champs! And CHS! Coventry and Cranston West have some great young talents coming up the ranks. I watched these young kids have a great tourney and shook up the brackets. Wade Husing Chariho battled to take 3rd he was 9seed, only loss was to Gillis...beat the decotis, then the #4 seed, then the #3 seed, then Cooper Hope. That kid had a great tourney. Kudos Ethan Bland Mt Hope had a great tourney under the radar. Tough Strong kid Hayden Meyers, Aidan Robichard, and with Lagasse and more young guns coming up gonna be strong Coventry teams in the coming years. Matt Defusco CW taking 4th, Stephenson CW, and Shiavulli, and Decotis give Cranston West some young talent.
Refs: for the most part were good(inconsistant on stalling), but if you are not in shape to get down fast enough to call a pin fall when it happens you should not be a ref. So many pins uncalled because refs out of position or not getting down on the mat fast enough. just an opinion.
also The lady yelling was over the top. Congrats to all.
