Williams got the dec tonight vs Merritt. 4-2 Both kids wrestled their hearts out. Word is Williams has a rib injury from last weeks trip to NJ. Look forward to seeing these two go at it again. I'm sure Williams is very happy to get the "W" but Merritt was so close to turning him. A potential dangerous call with :18 might have cost Kyle the match. I think the ref got it right. I have never had to be in a position to make a split second decision like that. In hind site, It appeared Kyle was using a reinforced underhook (Beef Wellington) from a top position.. Awkward for sure, as the arm and shoulder was being stretched in a manner not often seen. I thought Kyle had it tight and was in control, but again the ref was in close and in my opinion is a top tier official. Without the call Williams would have got turned. After the restart, Merritt came close to turning him again. Williams is a fighter. Not many wrestlers would have been able to withstand that heat. Great match. All wrestlers can take a lesson form these 2 outstanding athletes. Either one of them could have saved that match for states (which we will look forward to seeing again). They didn't, the match was set, the wrestlers were there, They stepped on the mat and gave it their all, no waiting, no strategic playing around, Just a BIG lets do this. They are what this sport is about in my humble opinion.

Tommy from Chariho is going to destroy Tyler Balon this weekend Tommy Wrzien is poound for pound one of the best wrestlers in the state Good wrestler but what you're saying is a little bit of a stretch I would not consider him Top 10 P4P in the state. I would expect he is going to dominate his weight class this year at states but I think that speaks more to it being a weaker weight class than it does to him being one of the top P4P guys in the state this year. Not trying to take anything away from Wrezesion but I don't think hes in the P4P discussion with kids like Bloom, Disano, Brown, Fenwick, Martino, McGill, Lynch, Rivet, Fallon etc. who have dominated the competition both in state and out.

McDowell has weighed in his last 3 matches at 138lbs. That is a 2 weight class difference. Guessing that needs to be factored in too.

Any good freshman we should be watching in a couple of weekends at the freshman state tournament? Fallon LaSalle, Iacabucci BH, Clark Cov, Merritt Char, Fry Cov, Are the obvious kids but a couple others that are gonna turn some heads: 106 - Colby Reilly Cumb. - 126 Dominic Bonanno Westerly, 113 Dominick Passanante Cumb - , 106 Brady Giles Cumb. - 132 Rutherford Cran. East - NK has some interesting freshman, and so does the Providence schools with beat the streets programs.

With pilgrim and Barrington being added to Smithfield tournament tomorrow, the light weight divisions just got interesting.
With no challenge for Merritt at 113, expect him to go 120, maybe Leonard (barr) gives him a match
126 now looks like a tough bracket with the three guys ranked (If McDowell still 126)
Soars to be beat Ryan in semis then McDowell in finals
152 should be interesting with Anderson and brown in the finals
Coach of the year must be Gordon. With such a young team and to win division over pong is truly impressive

McDowell has weighed in his last 3 matches at 138lbs. That is a 2 weight class difference. Guessing that needs to be factored in too. Mcdowell has weighed in both times at 126 and has bunped in the last two matches to 138. Anyone know the final score of lincoln and tolegate tonight BTW this is illegal as written. Wrestler's can only qualify for two weight classes on any given night, the one their weight actually qualifies them for and the one above it. (The only wrestlers who don't get this privilege are those that qualify for 285 only). So, if the wrestler actually stepped on the scale and qualified for 126 lbs., then they would only be eligible for 126 and 132 that night. If the this is the case and the wrestler wrestled at 138, then the 138 lbs. match should have been forfeited when the opposing coach brought it to the attention of the referee. If it wasn't brought to his attention then, the individual match and the dual meet itself could have its outcome changed pending a protest that should have been done within 1 hour of the conclusion of the dual meet (the referee's sign the score book at the end of each meet with the time it ended for this purpose). Even if a protest is no longer allowed to change the dual meet outcome for team records, power points and records for seeding at the state tournament may be adjusted by the coaches come seeding time for the states. With all that being said, it is much more likely that the wrestler simply weighed in and qualified for the 132 lbs. class. Which would then make him eligible for the 138 lbs. weight class. He would simply have to be over the max weight for the 126 lbs. class that night (most likely 128 or 129 depending on the allowance for the evening). This is a tactic often used by coaches when attempting to win a dual meet by playing out their favorable match ups. Extra Note: Wrestler's need to be careful when weighing in for weight classes higher than their typical weight class (or the weight class they intend to go for the states). Wrestlers must weigh-in at their lowest intended weight class in at least half of their dual meet weigh-ins in order to be eligible for that weight class at the state tournament. I.e. If a wrestler wants to go 126 at the states and weighs in for 15 dual meets, at least 8 of those dual meets they must weigh in at 126. Wrestler's also need to be careful about weighing in (not wrestling) 2 weight classes higher than their lowest certified weight. Weighing in 2 weight classes higher will cause a wrestler to lose certification at that lowest weight class and access to the growth allowance for that weight. If this were to happen, the wrestler would need to re-certify at the lowest weight class again without the growth allowance and it must be done before the certification deadline sometime in the middle of January. i.e If a wrestler certifies at 126 lbs in December and weighs in on January 7 at 138, the wrestler would no longer be eligible to weigh in for 126 unless he re-certifies. He would also only have about 7-10 days to do it based on the deadline which changes with each season and the calendar. If a wrestler loses certification after the deadline, then they cannot re certify for the lowest weight class and must compete at a higher weight class the remainder of the season.

With such a young team and to win division over pong is truly impressive They haven't won the division yet. They still have to wrestle SK, if they lose, Ponny could take division out right, but if both finish with 1 loss, they will finish tied for the division. RIIL does not use head to head for tie breakers for division title in wrestling.

Looking forward to watching teams like Chariho and Pilgrim go at it tomorrow! 132 will be a fun weight class to watch tomorrow with the likes of Zuller(Pil), Hamilton(WW), Van Horn(Char) and Hellman(Bar). That should shape up some of the podium for that class to at the states with Brown(Cov) @ the top and maybe with Villanova(Pon) and Batista(Cumb) rounding it off. IMO toughest weight class in the state this season.
