how do the independents work in this new system? i'm not sure there are any independents wrestling in the state tournament this year but as a former independent myself i'm curious if tournaments come into play for them because that was how i was able to be seeded at Sectionals my junior and senior years as was as my teammate Remy when he wrestled.

Good Question Answer: Every independent is assigned to a host school, usually the nearest school or essentially the one they practice with. Whatever division the host school is a part of, that is the division they are seeded in. Since "independents" never wrestle any official dual meet matches, they cannot accumulate Power Points. They are required, however, to attend at least 3 in-state tournaments and aquire a .500 record. If they do, their seed is voted on by the respective coaches of the division in question. If an independent is seeded in either division, then that division is allowed one extra wrestler for that weight class (DI has 14 per weight and DII has 10 per weight). So, if an independent went through the DI seeding, then DI would send 14 wrestlers plus the independent for a total of 15.

I believe they need to have a winning record of the 5 in-state tournaments that they do (3 minimum)

A lot of kids are getting injured right now so that could be the reason. Also could be academically ineligible maybe.... It is that time of year a lot of kids disappear.

Gaudiana is back in the lineup, just remember that everyone goes through their different trials during the season and people should not be too quick to judge specially when we have no clue what is going on in a persons life. Mike is a tough/good kid and will be a force to be reckoned with come time of states.
