I forgot central went to this last year. The out of state competition seems pretty subpar for those looking to get a good battle with 13/14 champs being from RI. Overall it doesn’t look like the tournament was very tough this year with some champs only wrestling three times to win it. Any idea where the other teams went? Results from Chad Antoch Memorial Tournament Top 3 Teams 1. Coventry 2. Scituate 3. New London High School (CT) RI Champs 106- Robert Newton (Scit) 113- Caden Hughes (Scit) 120- Stone Farnsworth (Cov) 126- Ben White (SK) 132- Cashman Downes (Middletown) 138- Sebastian Armstrong (Cov) 144- Eli Silverman (Cov) 150- Gabe Bouyssou (Scit) 157- Ryan Currier (Chariho) 165- Drake Dumont (Scit) 175- Logan Geas (Middletown) 190- Jack Giannetto (Naragansett) 285- Ason Jones (Cov) Best finals - Robert newton Dec 4-3 over New London High school’s 106 OW- Stone Farnsworth Things To Consider: -Central, NK, and Burrillville were a no show. - Scituate despite having an impressive showing falls to Coventry in the team race. - Coventry was missing some of their lineup (106 and 126) Notable Head to Heads 113- Caden Hughes (Scit) Pins Ben Kirk (Cov) 126- Ben White (Sk) Dec 11-4 over Logan Martins (Johnston) 138- Sebastian Armstrong (Cov) Majors Aidan Baker (Scit) 157- Raymond Mconnell (Narragansett) Majors Noah Turillo (Scit) 157- Ryan Currier (Chariho) Techs Raymond Mconnell (Narragansett) 16-1 165- Drake Dumont (Scit) Dec 6-4 over Eli Leach (Westerly) Overall a Great RI showing only giving up one weight class champ at 215 Other Thoughts - Leave transfer talk to another thread, this thread is for rankings and results not transfers and coaches. - Any exciting duals or head to heads this week?

Agreed, the competition was definitely lacking this year besides a couple good in state head to heads. No idea why NK or Central didn’t go would have been more exciting to see the matchups if they went.

I know that Cranston West and Pilgrim went up to Nashua South invitational. Cumberland and North Providence went to Spartan in Sanford Maine which I heard is a tough tournament. Does anyone know if they had any placers at those two? I believe that Lincoln went up to wrestling a quad in Haverhill. Any other tournaments?

East providence took first at Brendan Grant Tournament in Belmont Ma Phillips won at 138. Must be wrestling lighter this year. Could be in top 5 at that weight.

The whining is over shadowing the work being out in by these kids. Stop crying about who is where and wrestle. Kids should be at school where they are thriving. End of argument. If you're unhappy and your kid is unhappy then find a way to be happy and stop trying to make other people unhappy. If your school system isn't giving your child what he or she needs to happy and successful then change your situation leave everyone else alone. It's really not that hard. Ahhhh yes. The age old, “just let people do what makes them happy” argument. Sure, no problem. Just don’t do it on the backs of people that actually live in that town. Also, join a prep school league because the teams that struggle to build anything because they don’t recruit and the kids on those teams are the ones losing out. But it’s ok, they just don’t work hard enough right? Right. What ponogansett has is no doubt incredible. But now Burrilville, a team that was once very strong, suffers annually with numbers being right next door. Coincidence? Do the coaches do any less to field a team and compete? Larger D1 schools don’t have an issue with numbers for the most part, but the state title becomes a battle for runner up or even 3rd place when you have super teams that are able to take anyone they want, and nobody cares what you say, that’s no fun for anyone. Kids will go wherever they think they can be on a winning team, ESPECIALLY if their home team is a place that isn’t doing so hot which will eternally make that team that isn’t doing so hot continue to be horrible. Leading to the loss of programs and the opportunity to wrestle everywhere. I understand the point of small school kids leaving and do feel for those coaches but big picture when was Burrilville (or any small school for that matter) ever “very strong” compared to the likes of a BH, Pono, etc?? What does the loss of Apollo Bellini do for them.. from a 20th place finish at the state tournament to maybe a 14th-15th with him?? Everyone complains about what other schools are doing but doesn’t take a look at the faults of their own programs. Maybe we should ask why kids are leaving instead of criticizing the programs they leave for. RI needs to take a look around at the other powerhouse programs throughout the country.. hate to break it to you, but kids transfer schools to go to better situations all over. This isn’t just a RI thing that a few schools are taking advantage of. It’s high school wrestling, it’s not a big deal. Focus on your own programs and kids, if kids leave then so be it.

If Joyce got Morosetti to transfer to Pono in the middle of the season, everyone would be going crazy but Serge can get Turillo from NK and nobody says anything. There must be a lot of people on this forum drinking the mayo quanchi juice. Kaz would not leave NK even if the Blair Academy coach offered him a spot, but I understand your point. We are building something great with home grown kids. If people do not want to be a part of it, they are free to leave. Kids may also have things in life go on that make them leave. They do not owe it to anyone to explain themselves, especially on a website where anyone can make an account and post. Also, grown men speculating why a kid transferred schools is weird. Leave it alone. It’s different when talking about adults in college sports. I personally do not like or use this forum, but received too many screenshots of it to not say something. Lets drop this topic here. Anyway, the top 2 heavyweights in the state are rematching in a dual this week. Any other notable match-ups to watch for?

Will there be new rankings coming soon. 132 is turning out interesting is mazariego is injured. Also North Providence heavyweight beat Tyler bergeron who is new england ranked yet still isn’t ranked.

Looks like a light week for dual meets, however the Cumberland tournament this weekend should be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how East Providence, North Porvidence and Lincoln prevail.

It’s sad as I said how much weaker the upper weights are. I remember how insane heavyweight used to be with betancur, church, guarcas and martino in the weights. now it’s like kids that wouldn’t even place top 5 in those weights are dominating. Even look at 220, one of the worst weight classes the last few years, which used to be dominated by pono Cumberland and Hendricken is full of average wrestlers like diorio aliched raposo and wilcox

Wilcox is a beast. The boy became and All American at mawa this last summer. Average kids don't do that. Just my opinion, current Wilcox against senior year Church (which was his only varsity year) Wilcox would be the winner even giving up the weight. I think Wilcox places in New England this year if he's healthy. Actually if you check out the schwartz report preseason ranking you can see all four of the 220's you mentioned ranked as top wrestlers in New England. When was the last time that happened considering you can only qualify three for New England's from Rhode Island? Rhode Island wrestling is at the highest level it has ever been. Many kids placing at Nationals and kicking ass at New England's.

It was church’s second year varsity as he placed the previous year but just because they are ranked doesn’t mean that they or the weight are good. That kid Pellegri who was a 182 last year pinned returning New England finalist Harold in the second period, it’s not that talented of a weight. I believe Wilcox at most gets majored by church, but he also gets beaten by jarrell and bailey, maybe wins over cirka and hancock
