Providence Central accomplished what it set out to do this season, win the Div 2 & 3 team championship and establish itself as a legitimate contender in RI high school wrestling. Central topped Lincoln 216 to 193.5 and qualified an impressive 12 wrestlers for this weekend's championship, which is on a par with such RI powerhouses as Hendricken, Coventry, Cranston West and North Providence (only Hope, Ponaganset, Cumberland, East Providence, North Kingstown and LaSalle will have more entries at States). Toll Gate trailed in third place at 126 points, followed by an impressive showing by Scituate (since Gabe can only wrestle one weight at a time this was a true team effort), then Narragansett and Pilgrim all over 100 points. There were some big matches and a few notable upsets, such as White's pin of Kaminiski after coming from behind in the 126 finals, and Hunter's 5-4 win over Parker at 170 which got him ranked in Max Schwartz's most recent New England rankings on Connecticut Wrestling Online.
