How big was Ponaganset's Eastern States Classic win, big enough enough to crack the Fab 50, for years Intermat has ranked the top 50 teams in the Nation never has a Rhode Island Team been ranked in the top 50, that we know of, we checked with the rankings publications and they can not find one, even among Coventry's 80's and 90's team, if you know different let us know! We want to give credit where credit is due! But for now Ponaganset has done it, lets see how long they can stay in the top 50! Earlier this week NFHS released its first sports survey in three years there are 10,797 boys high school wrestling teams in the United States, to crack the top 50 puts you in the top 99.6 percent of all teams!! Congrats Pono!
The following is the official write up! Ponaganset (RI) enters the rankings at No. 50 after winning the Eastern States Classic this past weekend in New York, they placed seven wrestlers led by weight class champion Jacob Joyce(126) as well as tournament runner-ups Jason Hood and Andrew Reall, Minisink Valley who is ranked No. 26 drops six spots after finishing fourth! Joyce was voted Champion of Champions after he defeated NY State Champion Joseph Manfredi who up until this time was 82-0 in High School until he met Joyce who decisioned him 7-1!!
