Strong RI Contingent Heading to Journeymen!!!!

A strong contingent of RI wrestlers are headed to PA this weekend to test their metal in the meat-grinder that is the Journeymen Fall Classic; the classic will take place on Sunday as RI wrestlers contend with nationally ranked competition in Olympic pool style brackets, if you can stay undefeated in your pool, you then cross bracket and take on the other winners of their respective pools! RI will be led by Nationally ranked wrestlers Gabriel Bouyssou #15 on Flo and Jacob Joyce #18. Both wrestlers will face their fair share of competition. Gabriel’s weight 140lbs. is stacked with 8 Nationally ranked wrestlers, and Joyce’s weight,125, has the second most nationally ranked competitors at 5. Based on the rankings, it looks like Gabe will face off with #2 PJ Duke in his initial pool; this will be the third time in six months that these two have met; they split matches during freestyle season1-1. Joyce looks like he will see #8 Coleman Nogle in his initial pool. This will also be their third meeting this year they to have split their matches 1-1. But don’t sleep on the other guys in your pool. They are filled with National Prep, PA, New Jersey Champs, and Fargo AA's. In addition to the above, HM Ellis, HM Spencer Fine, NE placer Reall, and HM Diorio will also be wrestling on Sunday and attempting to upend some ranked guys! I see at least one of those four making a splash this weekend before the season even starts!!! In addition, Raposo from Cumberland and McCarthy make the coveted Sunday debut!!! There will also be plenty of talent  wrestling on Saturday and attempting to win their way into the Sunday Classic!!! Competitors listed below:

Preston Marchesseault winning the OverFlow is impressive. Tavares lost 6-2 to the kid that Marchesseault beat 7-0 in finals. I see big things coming from that kid. Marchesseault and Fine in the same bracket representing RI! The projected 182 State Final between him and Fine should be a good one.

Rhode Island had a great weekend at Journeymen; let's start with the ranked guys; Boyoussu's 5th place finish is a little misleading; at Journeymen, it's Olympic pool bracketing, so who you wrestle early depends on where you finish. Gabe wrestled #4, Duke, in the quarters and lost 5-2 because it was the quarters it prohibits him from wrestling for 3rd; Duke was his only loss; he avenged his loss at last year’s NHSCA’s to Hibler, winning 5-4 to capture 5th. The one thing about Gabe is he avenges almost every loss; it's an indication of proper preparation and training.

A similar thing happened to Joyce. He wrestled #8 Nogle in the quarters and lost in overtime; Journeymen is filled with great matches; watch that one if you have a flow account. It was wild. Joyce lost an additional match 1-0 to HM Nelson, a 2X state champ from Minnesota, who incidentally does well against kids from our region; it’s the same kid who knocked off Joyce’s future teammate Tyler Knox last year at Super 32. He ended the tournament by beating NJ, HM Walsh, who took 3rd in Jersey last year 5-2, he also pinned a UWW placer from California in the first round!

Peyton Ellis took 5th he went 4-1 losing only to top ranked Leo Deluca in the quarters, he bested NJ state placer Weiner, and a VA state Champ!

Andrew McCarthy also beat a VA state champ and beat local talent, who is now at Blair Ryan Meir 5-0.

Now on to what I am excited about, Andrew Reall, Spencer Fine, and Preston Marchesseault had break-out tournaments.

First Reall, he took 3rd, by beating Fargo 3rd Nevlin #20 (on FLO), from St Peter’s Prep, then beat Bethlehem Catholic stud and HM Jake Dailey, before coming from behind and Pinning Greco National Champ Liam Scrivanich from PA!

Fine beat Kilrain from Blair, NY placer Soriano lost a close one to Cordio 2-0 and beat Marchesseault in the finals.

Preston Marchesseault had a monster tournament; he first wins Overflo, then has to walk into Sunday’s main event against fresh ranked guys and what does he do? He starts off by knocking off Fargo AA Caleb Marzalino and state champion Zahir Mclean-Felix before losing to Fine for 3rd; Fine seems a bit stronger than Preston; Marchesseault was able to get in on Fine a few times but was unable to finish.
