Danbury Loses!

While it doesn't involve an RI team it is noteworthy since Danbury has arguably been the best high school wrestling program in New England for the past several years. They only lose to a Connecticut team about once a decade, so this may be it for awhile, dropping a 44-19 decision to Xavier High School on the road Jan. 8. Heck, they only lose 3-4 a decade in all of New England. It seemed a surprisingly one-sided defeat for the Hatters, who have four starters ranked in the top 10 of the New England rankings but only 1-2 likely finalists. Xavier, who has been No. 1 in Connecticut since then, has 5 ranked NE wrestlers (one just dropped off), all of whom may be expected to place. Danbury followed this rare loss with a one-point win over CT No. 3 Fairfield Warde and a decisive thumping of No. 13 Trumbull.
