It is also noteworthy that this is the second national-level tournament that Gabe went further than the wrestler who beat him in the New England finals, Kai O'Dell of Danbury CT. Neither placed at the Super 32 tourney, but at the Beast O'Dell lost to Jake Doone, of Nazareth PA, who Bouyssou pinned in the blood round on his way to 5th place. O'Dell had a good showing, winning three straight consolation matches after losing in the second round, so New England was well represented at this weight class. Another strong NE performance was turned in by Joshua Cordio of Lancaster MA (Nashoba Regional) who had finished second to Nick Fine of Hendricken at 170 in the New England championship. Cordio finished 3rd at 182 for the highest NE placer at Beast of the East. With several New England teams in attendance (Xavier CT among the others already mentioned) Timberlane NH was the highest finisher despite no place winners; they took the whole team. Didn't Nick Fine wrestle Jude Correa in the New England finals at 170?

Nick did beat Correa 7-2 in the semi-finals at NE's. Correa went on to pin the previous year's runner-up, Kyle Gora, for 3rd place, a remarkable feat itself.

The incredible things I’ve seen in general from RI the past few years has been amazing. Kids nowadays come in as freshman, state title contenders, in the hunt for national attention, and so on. The time of “Cinderella stories” are over lol. Love to see the high level that’s reached by genuine homegrown talent

Disclaimer: This is an early season batch of rankings, so expected to be a little bit of a mess. Will get cleaned up as the season goes on.
System: Started with last years state places, removed 2021 seniors (I think I got most of them, please let me know who I missed), then adjusted for head to head wins and weight changes that have taken place this season.
Factored in: South County Invitational, Lowell Holiday, dual results posted to TrackWrestling. That's all I have access to (that I am aware of) so any results I missed let me know.
I try to keep it systematic but had to use some judgment with guys moving up one or multiple weights - got a little messy but I think I mostly kept it based on state place regardless of what weight the paper is at. Not reflective of my opinion on guys, just got to a point where there was some parity in terms of credentials and had to stick everyone somewhere.
I do have multiple guys from the same school at a couple weights - just not sure how those situations will shake out, so leaving both on for now.
Help with misspelled names, removing graduated guys, results I missed, and filling out some of these weights (especially 170, 182, 285) is appreciated.
P4P
1. Betancur BH
2. Bouyssou Sci
3. Meyers Cov
4. Joyce Pono
5. Ellis Cov
HM Hood Pono
HM Torres Hope
Rationale (not my opinion): Bentancur highest ranked nationally (Flo), Bouyssou NE Finalist and Beast of the East 5th place, Meyers NE 3rd with the H2H over Joyce. Ellis NE 4th. Torres beat Ellis in NE's for 3rd but jumped from 106 to 132 this year. Considering expanding P4P to 10 wrestlers but want to see the season unfold a little first.
106 1. Conlan LSA 2. Bland MH 3. Silva WW 4. Dinucci Char
113 1. Ellis Cov 2. Armstrong Cov 3. Hiraldo Hope 4. Rosa SK 5. Davis CW
120 1. Joyce Pono 2. Farnsworth Cov 3. Vitullo MH 4. Husing Char 5. Flores Clas
126 1. Meyers Cov 2. Hood Pono 3. Schartner NK 4. Floody NK
132 1. Torres Hope 2. Swaim NK 3. Reall Pono 4. Robichaud Cov
138
1. Bouyssou Sci 2. Lagasse Cov 3. Kattan CW 4. Patoummahong Clas 5. Bland MH
145 1. Pacheco MH 2. Cooper Hope 3. Montefusco CW 4. Medeiros Barr 5. Castillo CE
152 1. Scalma BH 2. Rutherford Cov 3. Furtado MH 4. Hunter TG 5. Giampietro CW 6. Jobe Woon
160 1. Baccala Pono 2. Perez Hope 3. Marchessault CW 4. Santos Cumb 5. Thibedeau MH
170 1. Zarella NK 2. Fine BH 3. Bastajian Smith 4. Reiner SK
182 1. Grigorian LSA 2. Taveras Hope 3. Alarie Woon 195 1. Daylor NK 2. Polion CW 3. Mariai Char 4. Raymond NP 5. Sisco West 6. McWilliams Central 220 1. Jarrell EG 2. Dellegemine BH 3. Jenness MH 4. Raposo Cumb
285 1. Bentancur BH 2. Stockwell Burr 3. Gardiner Char
Notable head to heads to date (these should mostly explain difference in rankings vs 2021 States results):
120 Husing over Flores 132 Swaim over Robichaud 138 Kattan over Pathoummahong 145 Pacheco over Montefusco 152 Hunter over Giampietro 152 Furtado over Giampietro 160 Santos over Thibaudeau 160 Marchessault over Thibaudeau 170 Bastajian over Reiner 195 Daylor over Polion 195 Mariai over McWilliams 195 Mariai over Raymond 220 Jenness over Raposo

Please check up on your head to heads. 160 your missing the fact that Isael from hope has beaten 2 to thru 4. He Beat the number 2 this year at journeymen.

I get P4P is opinionated but Joyce anywhere lower than 2 is ridiculous. His resumé speaks for itself with multiple wins over highly ranked national opponents. While Myers does have the head to head (in what was a fabulous match that was game-planned very well on his end) he does not have the same amount of high level wins as Joyce on the national stage. P4P should look like 1) Betancur/Joyce (either order has a valid argument) 3)Bouyssou 4) Myers 5) Zarella HMs Ellis and Hood

You could certainly make the argument for Joyce anywhere between 1 and 4. I had Ellis over Zarella based on placement at the New England tournament (Ellis 4th, Zarella 8th). Would like to stress that I try to keep my opinion out of these and go purely off results.

Just a heads up....
Following wrestlers graduated 106 Silva WW 113 Rosa SK Hwt Stockwell Burr
Bastian beat Reiner Sk at 182 not 170
Should be added to Rankings
114 Henault, Lincoln took 2nd at South County losing to Davis in close match
120 Mooney, Lincoln took 3rd at south county losing a close match to Husing
Narr had the best finish out of non Div 1 teams at South County- don't be surprised to see some of their kids on the podium
182 - look for Sclama, BH to make some noise this year

Bouyssou all day number one P4p. When was the last time Adolfo faced a ranked opponent? All bc he is heavyweight does not mean he can beat Bouyssou head to head. 🤷♂️

Also JimmyM I forgot to mention, I’m hypothesizing that Farnsworth beat out Armstrong for the starting spot at 120. Those two kids train with each other all year round so it probably came at no surprise to the coaches (who also coach them year round). Which is absolutely crazy to think a returning state finalist is a back up because their line up is just so deep that there’s no where for him to go where he isn’t facing another state title contender.
