The p4p is just my personal opinion not fact based. But Grifka made it to a New England final

I'm genuinely confused as to why you have Grifka as top 5 for P4P he's wrestled in barely even passable weight classes with wins over not even top 3 ranked wrestlers in each weight. I think Clarke has a much better argument for best P4P with a win over Fine the #3 P4P wrestler All the kids in P4P are more than deserving. Clarke included. But to question Grifka as a top P4P in RI in my opinion is laughable. Placed second in the State as a freshman wrestling at 160 where I imagine he was wrestling nothing but upperclassman. And came very close to becoming a state champ that year as a freshman. Last year he completely dominated the 182 weight class as a sophomore and became a State champ. Beat and dominated Gregorian(LaSalle) twice including pinning him in the finals. Gregorian went on to place 5th at NE’s. And go look at the bracket of last years NE tourney where he placed 2nd. During the tourney he didn’t have an easy road. He beat the kids that placed 3rd and 4th in the tourney and as mentioned above beat Gregorian twice during the RI season who placed 5th. This kids size, strength, speed, and technical wrestling ability all combine to make him a premier wrestler in this state and region. Whenever P4P is brought up I hear the argument that the higher weights don’t posses the technical skills as those in the lower weights. With everything I’ve seen out of him I don’t feel this applies at all.

The kid gets dodged at every turn, so how is he supposed to get the proper matches. He is going to dominate in states and New England's this year.. anyone who has been around RI HS wrestling in the past 3 years knows exactly what a beast this kid is. He belongs exactly where he is P4P

Last duals of the season should be concluded by next week, I’ll be making the final rankings before states around that time.

Watch your language. This is a discussion not a verbal argument.
What does this even mean? And I suggest this post be taken down by the moderator.
He's gone. Again, let's have respect for everyone else's opinion. Nothing is more subjective in wrestling than P4P since by it's nature the guys listed won't go head-to-head so it's anybody's guess. We will get all the head-to-head matches that count starting in two weeks.

Thanks for taking that post down. I’m all about people having their own opinions and having a discussion in an adult manner. But certainly won’t respect an opinion of anyone when they try to generate a discussion In that way. Calling kids bums and using that type of language I’m sure isn’t how the RI wrestling community wants to be viewed by whoever comes to this board. Should be a good State tourney in 2 weeks. Good luck to all the wrestlers!!

Here's a great example of why ranking is so difficult. Lowman beats Gomez in a tri-match between Pon-CW-MH on Feb. 8 (5-2 according to Trackwrestling), then it's posted that Pacheco beat Lowman, by 5-0 it turns out. So Pacheco must be better than Gomez and arguably No. 2 in the State at 132, right? Not so fast: Gomez beats Pacheco 6-4 in the same evening. So, wrestling is not necessarily linear: A over B and B over C doesn't mean A will beat C. Put them on a mat and find out. Let's remember that as well when the State tournament seedings come out in about a week and a half. The coaches have to look at the whole season of work, not just a couple of crucial matches.

Saw New England Rankings for the first time this year the other day. Figured I’d post how RI is represented with New England’s right around the corner. 106- HM Joyce 113- #9 Gillis, #10 Meyers, HM Gomes 120- #2 Fry, #5 Cook 126- #1 Fallon, #4 Joyce 132- #2 Clarke, #7 Gomez, HM Reilly 138- #7 Cooper, HM Guerrero, Remolina 145- #1 Merritt 152- #2 Faria, #9 Bonanno 160- #1 Fine 170- n/a 182- #1 Grifka 195- #5 Marchione 220- #7 Bailey 285- #3 Guarcas, #6 Betancur

Those New England rankings can be really spotty, although I said Brian Garry vs Clarke in the NE finals now I’m not so sure. Garry himself is only ranked 5th in MA. Not to mention Cooper at #7 when he’s lost to a few people in state that aren’t ranked in NE. Scalma has beaten Cook and he’s not ranked. But I gotta give credit to the ones trying to do the NE rankings. It’s damn near impossible to rank that much talent over 6 states.

It’s going to be on track wrestling, and they post the brackets a few days before the actual tournament
