Thread to Highlight and Congratulate a rare sight, RI kids taking there talent to the next level. If anyone knows commits, please post, they deserve the highlight and congratulations! Or to post accomplishments of current RI wrestlers in college.

I don't know about commits so far for next season but this is the best year I can remember for RI grads wrestling at the Division 1 level since URI and Boston U had wrestling programs. Brown has three of them with the Labrie twins in their final season (Christian starting at 157 and Andrew filling in at higher weights) and Sam Lynch starting the season at 141 as a freshman. Ebed Jarrell at Drexel, PA is ranked 17th in the country at 165 lbs. Devin Rivet has appeared in several early season tournaments for Campbell University in NC but sits behind the 9th ranked wrestler in Division 1 at 149 pounds. Dante DelBonis is starting at 285 lbs. for Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT, a rare feat for a freshman, while fellow frosh Seth Brown has started most matches at 133 lbs. Am I missing somebody? Please add them if you know of a RI wrestler competing in Division 1 wrestling this season, even if they are not starting.
Of course, there are many RI guys wrestling at smaller colleges, particularly Division III schools in RI and New England. We should include them as well.

Not as big as the other names we’ve said but Kyle Brown(former 152 for Toll Gate) seemed to have started a club wrestling team at Southern New Hampshire, now sure this isn’t D1, D2, or D3 competition but it shows a true love and passion for the sport

Rhode Island will have TWO wrestlers in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this weekend in Pittsburgh. Ebed Jarrell of East Greenwich will represent Drexel University at 165 lbs., having placed 4th in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships on March 9, while Christian Labrie of Exeter-West Greenwich placed 5th at 157 for Brown in the EIWA tourney. Brown will have three other representatives in the NCAA's as well, including two from New England. Heavyweight Ian Butterbrodt of North Andover was EIWA runner-up, while Jonathan Viruet of Springfield placed 6th at 165 (he lost 6-5 to Jarrell in the consolation semi-finals) and Christian Lafragola (from New Jersey) was 5th at 184. All the Brown wrestlers are seniors, but Ebed is a junior.
I honestly cannot remember the last time there were two RI high school wrestlers in the NCAA Division I championships. I can only guess that would go back to the 1970's-80's when URI competed in Division I and had studs like the Pucino brothers and Jeff Buxton wrestling a national schedule. Later when coach Carl Adams went to Boston University (after URI dropped wrestling) Danny Smith of Coventry qualified for the NCAA's but I don't remember any other RI wrestlers on that squad. The last RI wrestler I can remember making the Division I tourney is Corey Peltier of Bishop Hendricken and then Blair Academy (yes, that Blair) who won the ACC tournament at 184 in 2011 for Maryland. If you think of any other RI wrestlers who made it to the Division I championships any time this century please post their names here.
The NCAA Wrestling championships will be carried by Trackwrestling, not Flo, and ESPN (especially ESPNU) usually covers a lot of the matches. Check your local stations as they say, or get a InterMat subscription, or just track the action on Track and cheer on the RI and NE wrestlers.

As an RI wrestler alum, I've been working with those gentlemen in the NCWA as well. They're all great guys & wrestlers who have helped build us up in the NCWA as a new program. SNHU now has a wrestling team to all RI wrestlers!
