Many elite RI Wrestlers participated at The Journeymen Fall Classic over the weekend and did well. Representatives from Mayo Quanchi, Blackstone and Bears wrestling club competed.
The main event which invites wrestlers from all over the country to participate, took place on Sunday the 7th, if you are not invited you can wrestle and win your bracket on Saturday in a tournament called the Overflow which then allows you to wrestle in the main event. The brackets and results from both can be found at www.tournaflex.com/splat.asp?target=brackets1.htm
Overflow Summary
113 Gillis Blackstone took 4th
130 Clarke Mayo Quanchi 2nd
145 Villanova Bears 3rd
106 Cook Bears 2-2
126 Reilly Blackstone 2-2
120 Mason Lynch Blackstone 1-2
152 Dominic Bonnano, Mayo Quanchi 2-2
Sunday Main Event B Pool
113 Fry 5-0 B pool champ! Fry also was 5-2 @ fargo Should have been in the A pool, is much improved, Hunter Adrian was in the A Pool and went 0-7
113 Joyce 3-2 B Pool 4th did not wrestle Fry, has 2 Victories this Fall over Fargo AA's however and beat Overflow champ!
135 Clarke went 5-1 looked great, only loss was to NJ Placer Grater 1-0
140 Nick Fine went 3-2 B Pool took 4th, but won over NE Placer Ryan from Trumball but lost to NE placer Sean Johnson 7-4
Sunday Main Event A Pool
Tyler Riggs was the only wrestler to compete in the A pool, he struggled against the #9 in the country Silas Alfred Indiana State Champ, but looked impressive even though he went 1-2 after that, winning a OT thriller and losing to Wilkens the NE champ in OT, honestly though Riggs outwrestled Wilkens and lost on a questionable locking hands call!
My Takeaways Villanova and Gillis look better than last year for sure, Riggs is a force and Fry, Clarke, Joyce, and Fine all underclassmen should really breakout this year!
