Returning 145 Champ Sam Lynch cut down to 138 this year. Coventry’s stud and 2x State Champ at 106 and 126, Sean Caltagirone bumped up two weight classes from last year. I was highly anticipating this match going into the North Providence tournament, where Caltagirone took the win. Will this be the State Finals match at 138 this season and if so, who does everybody think will take the weight class?

Actually yes, he did bump up. He was beat out for the 132 spot by Brown and had to go 138 if he wanted to be Varsity. So he actually is very small for 138. He looked outsized as compared to Lynch and the other guys he wrestled this weekend. But I disagree, Caltagirone is on a good side mentally, as compared to Lynch because of the recent win. So, I think it will be State Finals, Caltagirone over Lynch, in a low scoring match.

He’s weighing in at 137-138 but steps on the scale eating and drinking from what I’ve seen/heard. But I think his heart and technical aspects will put him on the podium at New England’s. The win against Lynch definitely proves he is skilled and works hard enough to compete with some of the best in New England at that weight. Him, Brown, Clarke, and Fry will definitely go far this season for Coventry.

This post was made before DiSano made the cut. It will be interesting to see which wrestler takes it. What is the prediction for everyone? Caltagirone, Lynch or DiSano?

Wrestling 138 is not bumping up. It’s his weight. He’s growing like most HS’ers. Now if he wrestles 145 or 152, then he can have credit for bumping up if he makes 138 scratch. As for state finals... Lynch will get the decision over Calatagirone. A win in December does not equal a win in post season. This could be wrong as it’s only a guess but since you asked, may as well answer.
