With Andrews back at 138 and lynch and McGill bumping back up what does that do the rankings do we put McGill over Rivet? Does Lynch go to the number 1 spot? And where does Andrews factor into the 138 rannings? What’s everyone’s thoughts? Rivet was DIRTY against the Cov kid !! Good wrestler,, no need to play NASTY !!

Do you actually go to the matches ?? Is this pure speculation ?? If this is directed at me there is no speculation at all. It’s based on who beat who if someone’s above you and you beat them then you move ahead of them in the rankings. I try to keep it as systematic as possible and the rankings do not reflect my personal opinion of who will place where.

With the 138 rankings, we also have to remember the fact that Lynch beat DiSano in State Finals last year. Caltagirone beat Lynch the last time they wrestled, so based off of the most recent matches, it seems as though the rankings should be set as: 1) Caltagirone 2) Lynch 3) DiSano

Do you believe the kid had anything to do with the decisions made for him about wrestling. The Sean I know would be glad to wrestle anytime win or lose. Fact of the matter is that Sean has tons of respect for both of those wrestlers and would enjoy wrestling both regardless of the outcome. Don't put the blame on the kid! If you are going to blame something blame the system. Adults please remember kids read this forum. So I heard Caltagirone dodged Disano in this weekends tournament. Good strategy! Dodge Lynch at the Dual meet and get 1st seed so DiSano and Lynch are on the same side of the bracket. Tricky tricky.

This is off topic, but Just wondering the rules, regarding an ineligible wrestler being allowed to dress and weigh in and act like they can wrestle just to throw the other teams match ups off. Is this legal? Doesn't seem fair at all!

This weekend saw some great results for RI teams and wrestlers, not the least of which was #1 team in RI Ponaganset beating #2 in CT Bristol Eastern.

This is off topic, but Just wondering the rules, regarding an ineligible wrestler being allowed to dress and weigh in and act like they can wrestle just to throw the other teams match ups off. Is this legal? Doesn't seem fair at all! Wrestlers who are ineligible are not allowed to weigh-in. However, the word ineligible has a specific definition to mean NOT ALLOWED TO COMPETE AT ALL due to something like School Grading Policy, RIIL Suspension, and/or Weight Management Requirements. For any of these reasons (or similar) a wrestler is not allowed to even step on the scale and in some cases travel or dress with the team. However, if a wrestler is unavailable on a given night due to injury or team choice, that does not need to be disclosed to the opposing coaching staff. This is a common tactic used by coaches when trying to win a dual meet. Weighing in multiple wrestlers at a certain weight and winning the coin flip to control a weight class. Example: Team A has a STUD 160 lbs. and an average 170 lbs. Team B has a very good 160 lbs. and a not so good 170 lbs. Team B also weighs in a JV wrestler at 160 along with their good wrestler while Team A has no back up at 160. Should Team B win the coin flip, they may choose to give the 160 lbs. match send to Team A. This forces Team A to send their STUD first, allowing Team B to either send their JV or simply forfeit the match and bump up their 160 lbs up to 170. The hope is that these two matches will result in a 1-1 split rather than both matches being won by Team A. Why does Team A have to send their 160 lbs. if they know this is going to happen? If it's their responsibility to send first and they choose to save their STUD to try and chase the opponent up a weight class, they have to declare they are not sending a wrestler (remember, no back up). Team B can now send either their JV or their starter to take a forfeit and they still achieve the 1-1 split they hoped for. It is up to the coaching staff to be aware of these strategies and plan for them by weighing in the appropriate wrestlers at specific weight classes. Some teams don't have the bodies to cover these scenarios. That is why wrestling is not only a great individual sport, but a great team sport as well. The coaches set up strategies for both sides of the coin flip and each wrestler has a job to do to make sure that strategy is successful. Sometimes the wrestler's job is to go out and get his team bonus points (major, tech, fall), sometimes its to stay off their back for 6 minutes, and sometimes it is simply to step on the scale at a certain weight to keep the opponent's team at certain weight classes.

Thanks for the response, not going to put the team or coach on blast, but it was definitely not injury related.
Also when will the new rankings be posted

Update 1/31/18 1. Brian Martin 160 from Ponaganset is the most underrated wrestler in the state. He had close matches with Rivet, Metcalf, and beat a few solid CT kids this past weekend. 2. 145 lb weight class is a buzzsaw 3. Rivet will not be wrestling the rest of the season because he is training for the NFL combine. I find all 3 of your comments not true. Never heard of Brian Martin and what weight did he wrestle in Southington Ct this weekend? Trevor Villanova wrestled 160 and kicked ass. 145 is good but let’s be real, 138 and 126 is the buzz saw. Devin Rivet is awesome, but NFL isn’t calling his agent. Nice try. Where are the new rankings?

This is just an observation only - but I think The Crocker Brothers from NK should be listed. At 220 You don't have Zack Crocker even listed in the mix. He beat Marshal from SK last night and beat Jocimat from NP already. At 285 should be C. Crocker at NK (not sure who Renolds). C Crocker has beaten Phelps from CH but has not yet wrestled LaSalle, EP or hope His record is 9-1. I am not any relation to them, just a fan.

Sorry this took a while, been busy lately and wanted to do a throughout job. As always if I missed anything please let me know.
2/1/2018 Power Rankings (with full explanations):
Fallon out at 113, Holland up to #1.
McGovern moves down to 120 from 126. He Beat Rizzo earlier in the year so he slots in at #5 for now, will be interesting to see how he does against the rest of 120, could potentially see him moving up the rankings before the end of the season.
Watts has been back and forth between 126 and 132. He’s been seeking out the toughest competition he can get each dual meet which is respectable and I think more wrestlers should start doing this. Keeping him at 132 where he has a higher ranking than he would be at if he were ranked at 126.
145 is probably the toughest class I have ranked so far this season. Young was the #2 in the previous ranking and he lost to Lyons from SK 6-4. However, the same week this happened Lyons lost to the #6, Reid, in double overtime. Making it tougher both Lyons and Young have not wrestled much at all this season, with both of them apparently getting late starts. Young recently pinned the #3 Kadaar who has beaten #4 Soares and #5 Bonanno so it would be questionable at best to drop Young (a two time state finalist) any lower than #2 in the rankings. At the same time, I have trouble moving Lyons all the way up to #2 in the rankings even though he beat the #2 Young, with him having lost to the #6 and not wrestling the beginning of the season. Furthermore, Lyons did not place at states last year. Young beat Kadar, Kadar beat Reid (6-3), Lyons beat Young, and Reid beat Lyons. Since Lyons beat Young, and Reid beat Lyons, they are both going to move ahead of Soares and Bonanno who neither has wrestled yet. However, Reid is not able to move ahead of Kadar because he lost to Kadar and Lyons is not able to move ahead of Reid because Lyons lost to Reid, even though he did beat Young. For now Young will get the benefit of the doubt and remain the #2.
Andrews in for Pono at 138 he hasn’t wrestled much this season so not much to go off of but I think most people would agree he should slot in at #3 or #4 and I’ll give former state champ Nappi the benefit of the doubt. Lynch up to 145 he’s the clear #1. Lynch up to 160 putting Lynch at #2 behind Rivet and I can’t wait to see that finals match. This is a great team move for Pono, who adds a potential high state placer in Andrews while still being able to see Lynch and McGill most likely be in the state finals. This could put them over the top. Not to mention that Villanova, previously #5 at 152 moved up to 160 and took out the #1. Pono the favorites for the team title now in my opinion.
Caltigirone over Disano at 138. Calitgirone place higher at NE’s last year, and also beat Lynch who beat Disano in last years state finals. Again this is not me predicting who will win it’s a systematic ranking based on who beat who, it is only right to have Caltigirone at #1.
Big shift in 160. Holdrege and Villanova both Bumping up. Holdredge lost to #1 Dougherty 3-0 and Villanova beat #1 Dougherty 3-0. Burgess also beat Dougherty 3-1. Villanova will be the new #1 at 160, Burgess the #2, Dougherty the #3, and Holdredge the #4. 160 is probably most deep and evenly matched weight class. I could see anyone on the list including honorable mention Grifka making an appearance in the finals.
A few other small changes. Feel free to ask if any clarification is needed.

I only say this because by the way you for rankings it makes sense to have McDowell above Hamilton, McDowell pinned Lombardo and Hamilton lost to Lombardo. And McDowell and Hamilton are 1-1
