THE NCAA BRACKET IS OUT!!!
2015-16DIIIWRE_Brackets_20160307.pdf (123.87 KB)
Be sure to follow Rhode Island College Wrestling at NCAA's as #4 seed at 141 Shawn Giblin and Brandon Conrad, who is unseeded at 184 starting Friday on Trackwrestling.com. Matches will be televised on “trackcast”.
Shawn will face Venezia from Wabash (IN) in the opening round of 16. Then next potentially #5 seed is Kihn from Heidelburg (OH), who won his regional in the Mideast. On that side of the bracket, the #1 is Van Anrooy from Luther (IA), who was a finalist last year. Should be an exciting weight class with 5 returning all-Americans at the weight! Van Anrooy will have to face Binion from North Central (IL) in the opening round, who was drawn in and was an all-American at 6th last year, then in the quarters will have to face Border from Mount Union, who is the 8th seed, and was an all-American as he was 3rd at 133. This is a crazy wide open weight. Shawn has to take one at a time and anything can happen.
Brandon was drawn in and will face the winner of a pigtail between #8 seed Briggs of Concordia (MN) who will have to beat Palmeri from Brockport (NY) to get to Conrad. A win puts him in the quarters against #1 seed Riley Lefever of Wabash (IN) who is the defending 2x NCAA champ. An upset makes him all-American, and on to the semis, otherwise it may pit him against the loser of #2 Chorzepa from Williams or #7 Gockel-Figge from NYU to become all-American. Brandon's thoughts are "one at a time".
We are very excited at the potential to bring home two more all-Americans. Be sure to follow all weekend long from Cedar Rapids, IA.
We have some history at the US Cellular Center as Michael Bonora was crowned National Champion at 141 in that building in 2008, and last time it was there in 2014 Silas Murray made the all-American podium at 133.
