This a remarkable feat for any New England college team, let alone an RI wrestling team, as Roger Williams placed third in the Division III National Duals Jan. 8 & 9 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. RWU finished ahead of several long-time Div. III national powers such as Ausburg, MN and Ithaca, NY.
Here's the posting from Pintowin.com (CT): "This past weekend, RWU did what no other New England team has ever done - finished 3rd at the NCAA National Duals. In the first round, RWU defeated #16 Baldwin Wallace 24-11. In the quarterfinals, RWU defeated #2 Ithaca 17-15. After dropping the semifinals match to the eventual champions (Wartburg), RWU defeated #6 Concordia Moorhead 26-18.
RWU moves to 10-1 on the season and is 47-3 in their past 50 dual meets. We currently have six wrestlers ranked in the country in Ty Herzog (157), Francisco Colom (165), Danny Ressler (174), Joe Albina (184), David Welch (197) and Kyle Foster (285). 149 pounder, Danny Downes, should enter the rankings next week after defeating #8."
Not sure why Coach Egan posted on the Connecticut site and not on this one. Maybe we need a college wrestling section on this site. Stay in touch coach! RIC does.
