Connecticut had 16 guys place in the top 3, where as Massachusetts had 13. Connecticut tore it up just a little bit more!

To the person who stated that RI did not have a good showing at the New England's. Let's look at the facts. RI has 142,008 students in public schools. Mass has 955,844 students in public schools. Conn has 554,437 students in public schools. This is not counting private schools which would inflate their numbers even greater. You can only pick from the pool of students that you have. Our entire wrestling league is the size of just one division in Mass. There are definitely ways we can improve RI Wrestling to make it more competitive, but I think that we are very competitive against the other New England States. I am not going to get into how we can improve, but just one note to all our coaches, we cannot waste our time with all these in state tournaments that only have RI teams. You need to invite high caliber out of state teams, and we need to enter out of state tournaments. Many teams already do this, but we need every team too. If money is an issue, start fundraising now. My rant for the day...

We had a few more guys run deep into the consi's also....young guys too, freshman, sophomores, and juniors....which is nice to see. I agree we can improve, I'd like to see more RI schools at places like lowell....I think only EWG, Mt Hope, and MB were there from RI ( I might be forgetting one ). But I think 5 is a bit short from where we all would like to see at NE's

With the limit on weigh-ins, that is difficult to do. Coaches have to pick and choose more now than ever before.

The riil only allows teams to have 20 dates of wrestling along with a 5 tournament limit. From my understanding, lowell counts as two events, two tournaments, since its a two day event. Miaa (Massachusetts's riil) doesnt have a limit. A sophomore from mass, earned his 100 career win at new englands, thats impossible in ri. If riil, got rid of rule limitations, it would greatly help the state.

I do not get this 20 date limit RI has. My sons team goes to 5 tournaments a year, so they have to squeeze in thier 15 duel meets into quads and tri meets so they do not go over the 20 dates. This year, he went up against a kid from Mount Anthony who had 225 wins. That's not counting his losses. How can he compete against kids like that. We need to expand the season, if we want to compete. I go on other teams websites in other states, and they have a 30 plus meet schedule. The start and end dates for wrestling are basically all the same in every state in New England, so there is no reason why we cannot expand how many meets we can enter. In division 1 there is a 15 in state duel meet schedule. A team should be able to squeeze in as many out of state tournaments as they want. If someone knows why this rule is in place, please let us know.
