mrfess, I'm wrestling (no pun intended) with some of these same questions. I thought it was helpful to get Cael Sanderson's take on the matter. On his website he has a FAQ section. There he says that it's fine to get kids started early, though he says it's not crucial. The main thing he emphasizes though is that if we start our kids early in wrestling we should keep it fun to avoid burning them out and causing them to hate the sport we love. I'm trying to take that advice when it comes to my kindergartner.

I'm trying to take that advice when it comes to my kindergartner. Thank you! This is very helpful. That is one of my biggest concerns is starting him too early, and then causing him to "burn out".
