33-15. It was competitive, but actually a little more one-sided than I expected against probably the best team in New England. See the attached article from the Bennington (VT) Union (printed without permission). For what it's worth, I think that's the first match this season MAU didn't get a single pin. Even against Danbury CT they got three (and were pinned twice). Hard to tell who were the BH winners other than Jon Celico, but seems like DiMauro and Stewart won. 152?? Any Hendricken fans in attendance who can enlighten us? Noteworthy matches for New England ranking purposes were Price over Boesch 9-4 at 182 and defending NE champ, NHSCA champ and 3x All American Jesse Webb over Sauer 13-1. I think that is only the second time this season that Webb failed to pin an opponent from a New England school. You know you're good when your coach gripes about a major decision against a 2x RI placewinner. A little surprising to me were the losses by Nick Celico and Sauro who have had outstanding results against ranked New England competition this season; that's how good and deep MAU is. No Davol against Gassaway though?
Today should be interesting. See the below schedule from MassWrestling.com about the duals going on today. Cumberland and Coventry are in the mix as well as Mass. #1 Springfield Central, who will go against Cumberland this morning and Hendricken this afternoon.

I have been told that the officiating was completely one sided in favor of mt anthony. I have personally witnessed that in the past it's a shame a team like mt.anthony would need there refs to sway the outcome of so many close matches. In fact during one of the matches the Hendricken wrestler looked up at ref out of frustration and said he's pinned and ref responded by stopping match and giving him an unsportsmanlike like penalty . I have also witnessed in the past a team leave out of frustration of one sided calls. Don't know what can be done but seems to be an unfair advantage. Anyone with any ideas? Or should we except it . I don't see anything that blaten anywhere else.

According to a post on MassWrestling.com (MAUCoach)Mt. Anthony Union beat Cumberland 63-3 today. If it makes you feel any better RI wrestling fans, MAU only gave up 10 points to Nashua North, 3 points to Natick MA, and 9 points to South Windsor CT. Heavy sigh. And Springfield Central beat Hendricken 30-27 and Cumberland 38-31. I didn't see any Coventry scores. So if anyone has any match bout scores PLEASE share them on this site.
As for the officiating, I don't know, I wasn't there, but I do know this. Mt. Anthony has won 7 New England team championships and I don't believe any of them were in Vermont. In the last few years they have won NE titles in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island where there are few referees biased in their favor. Bottom line is if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. As good as Hendricken, Cumberland, Springfield and even Danbury CT are, right now MAU is better. Kudos for BH, Cumberland, Coventry and earlier Johnston for going up there and trying their best. Hopefully this additional effort and exposure will help narrow the gap when they get to New Englands.

It would be great to have Mt. Anthony come to RI next year. The officiating Friday night (MAU vs Hend) was the most lopsided I've seen in a dual meet. I understand that close calls will go to the home team, however this ref had no business on a wrestling mat. He made blatant miss calls (takedowns, back points, etc) that changed momentum in numerous matches. So the final score does not reflect how close the battle was - you had to be there. Nonetheless, all the wrestlers on both teams carried themselves in a manner which you would expect. They wrestled from whistle to whistle.[/font]

I was there and can say the official ( term used loosely) was an embarrassment to the sport. Nick Celico flat out robbed of at minimum 4 points. Swanson not given reversal that would have changed his match that was potential 6 points gifted to MAU. A team as talented as that does not need help like that. One had to witness it, words give no justice. As for the newspaper consider that no losses were reported to draw conclusion of how accurate the match description was. Both RI teams were very physical and never quit.

Dupre was tilting Hayes and got pinned or Hayes was tilting Dupre and pinned? How was the match going before that?

Dupre was tilting Hayes, and Dupre had a quick shrug for a takedown and went straight for the tilt and pinned himself, first period
