Liston I have never come on here or even as so much talked negatively about any coach, wrestler, or club. I don't understand why I have high school kids telling me that their are coaches talking negatively about my Son or "THAT THEY HAVE KIDS THAT CAN BEAT MATT". You guys all had your chance to have you're best face him during his short season this year and the small tournaments he went to, instead you sent JV kids or would forfeit against him. Now Matt had represented RI well in New Englands and at national tournaments. Instead of talking $hit find him at a tournament or message me and let me know were your best RI kids at his weight will be at, cause its not even out of state coaches that are talking smac. And that's what bothers me the most. Now I apologies to those who might think this is wrong of me but, Matt has had a tough year this season for many reason. I just don't want Any more nativity going his way.

Mr. Alverez, I wouldn't worry about talk you hear from kids or coaches, 1st hand, 2nd hand, ect...There will always be haters, negativity, and discontent w/ most standout wrestlers. It was a blow to RI wrestling not having Matt represent RI this yr at NE's, and a shame he couldn't try for 4 state titles. Hopefully next season everything will work out for Matt, and he can represent the way that he knows how. In wrestling talking is done on the mat, plain and simple. Best of luck this off season

Agree with Wiseowl... even more so I dont believe that many people are "talking trash" about matt. If anything I think most were disappointed he didnt wrestle. Do I think there are people that believe in their hearts that they can challange him, sure, and I would hope this to be the case. I wouldnt call this "talking trash" I would call that believing in ones self, whether they are correct in their beliefs is a whole different matter. As wiseowl says Matt (and you need) to let the talking be done on the Matt nothing speaks louder then standing on the top of the medal stand at the end of the day. People always hate on and believe they can beat then man on the top thats how it is, especially if that man didnt represent himself this year, leaves the window open for assumptions and judgements.

My point was not that wrestlers were talking trash but that adult coaches were. The student that approached my son is a student from Cranston West. And if there are kids that believe they can beat Matt, GOOD they should believe in them self but, that's not the case. It's coaches talking and running out the side of there mouth and, that is why I said, when Matt was wrestling these same coaches save their "varsity guys" away from my boy and sent in JV kids out, if anybody at all. That is all I will say cause I don't want to get the kid that came to us in trouble. In any case it isn't worth sweatting some coaches that just wish they had Matt on their team. DONE, OK IT'S OFF MY CHEST NOW, LETS MOVE ON. GOOD LUCK TO ALL RI WRESTLERS THIS YEAR. I'M STILL DEBATING WEATHER I WILL KEEP MATT IN RI OR SEND HIM TO CT THIS YEAR ANY HOW.

Just for the record. I hope that the above message doesn't imply that I or any of my coaches were talking negatively about Matt. We all have to deal with negative comments, including myself. There is too much to accomplish to worry about such things. My advice would be not to worry about what people say and just keep putting your best foot forward. He has tremendous ability which has to speak volumes about his work ethic, so I understand your frustration. No matter what state Matt ends up in I will continue to follow his career because throughout my entire coaching career it has been rare to see such talent and potential. I could tell he was a special athlete at his first takedown tournament his freshman year. Good luck and sorry about the negativity.
