As I'm writing this, the New England's for D3 college wrestling isn't over. But, I know Giblin of RIC is in the finals and Connor Nelson finished in 5th place, I believe. However, I live in Florida and went to go watch the Southeast Conference championship for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), a national league for club teams, held on the campus of the University of Central Florida (where I teach). Marion Military Institute's 157 had a great run to the finals where he lost a tough match to the top ranked wrestler at that weight in the NCWA, Santiago of UCF. MMI's 157 is Matt Minty, originally from Narragansett, and he wrestled great. I knew he looked familiar as I used to be a ref in RI, and so when they announced his name for the finals, I said, "oh wow, I know that kid! He's from RI!" It's such a small world.
