Divisional Races - y there should be six divisions

Le'ts discuss the open coming divisional races....

Division 1 North (8 teams)

Pretty much a two team race Bishop Hendricken & Cumberland
Their epic battle will be on Feb 8th
Has the touch of private school vs public school

Winner of this division most likely 16-0, second place 15-1
Rest of the teams are left in the dust

Division 1 South (9 teams)
This division race is pretty much already over
1st Place - North Providence record 5-1
2nd Place - South Kingstown record 5-6

Match date: January 25th
Congratulations to np's coaching staff and their kids

analysis - 3 teams out of 17 have a chance to bring home the division title....half way through the season

Let's discuss Division 2 divisional races...where all the fun is at

Division 2 North (9 teams)
Three horse race where each team is neck to neck
Smithfield 9-0
Johnston 8-1
Pongansett 8-1

The best part is that each team still has to wrestle each other
Remember these dates film guy!!!

Feb 1st - Tri meet Pongansett/Smithfield/Moses Brown
Feb 8th - Pongansett vs Johnston
Feb 13th - Johnston vs Smithfield - last match of the year

Division 2 South (8 teams)
This division is coming down to four teams
Tollgate record 9-1
Hope 8-3
Narragansett 6-3
EWG 4-2

Tollgate has two remaining tough matchups on their schedule
Feb 1st - EWG
Feb 9th - Narragansett

Hope has two remaining tough matchups on their schedule
Feb 1st - Pongansett
Feb 8th - EWG

Narragansett has two remaining tough matchups on their schedule
Jan 25th - Pongansett
Feb 14th - EWG

EWG has three remaining tough matchups on their schedule
Jan 26th - Johnston
Feb 8th - Hope
Feb 14th - Narrangansett

Analysis - overall there are 7 teams still fighting for a division title

It is obvious over the past two years that there is huge gap between the top of division 1 and the bottom of division 1

I believe that the league should go back to 6 divisions along with 3 sections..A B C

Realignment is coming up again at the end of this year and it has been agreed that realignment gets redone every two years....

I feel that 6 divisions would bring tighter division races making February wrestling in Rhode Island a lot more intense!!!!!

Does that just make weaker teams look better? I'm trying to get a handle on the team placements.

My believe and what I will fight for is just 3 divisions 6 is too many. 34 teams D1-12 D2-11 D3-11. Wrestle 10/11 league meets and have to find 4-5 non league matches. Football does a similar system. Most the state wrestles non league matches/tournaments anyways.

How would you set up the sectional tournament...because with the 3 divisions your looking at D2 and D3 sectionals and taking the top 6 in each??? with all of D1 going based on power points i assume and do you screw over the kid who won D3 (because he is in say a small school or on a team that doesnt get the numbers every year so they tend to lose more dual meets)...just playing devils advocate would like to hear the thoughts of some people.

All Divisions should have their own tournament and make it fair for everyone. Now that will get some division 1 teams upset, but do it and have it clear all across the board.

I completely agree with you come2wrestle....how is it fair that all of the D1 kids get into the tournament without having to go through a tournament the weekend before hand??? i could be wrong but im sure most other states have all divisions do a sectional tournament before their state tournament.

Sectionals for all three divisions or better yet... 3 regional qualifiers. Top 5 from each region and a bonus vote in. True 16 man state tournament bracket. The regionals could be wrestle back to second since it will be difficult to seed. It will also make seeding for state championships pretty easy. Take the 3 champs see where head to heads/power points are then look at the runner ups did they beat any champs and so on and so forth. Think it would bring the best 16 kids to the state championship per weight class and no more.

It'll never happen but one can wish. In this system every one would wrestle a competitive meet schedule and the cream will rise to the top to go to state championships not just gift people in so that the top schools can bring 14 and hope 1 kid catches some one to give them an extra 2 team points.

Not all D1 kids go anymore. And D2 wanted sectional back as they should gives kids great opportunity to metal

Most D1 goes and D2 brought it back because the jv tournament was a nightmare last year. D1 can get it done as well if they would stop the politics. The top teams will still have their top teams. No easy points. No easy win. A fight for all type of tournament.

My fault helper i thought it was all D1 wrestlers but even still...D1 should do a tournament and if they want to complain that not all of their kids will get in with a tournament then they shouldnt be at state tournament to begin with (just my opinion)

I've always been in favor of a D1 sectional, with bumping and elegibilty, and injury, reasons, seeds are not always true. The best wrestler may not be where they should be. D2 complained "why do we have to qualify and D1 doesn't" then D2 sectional is gone and kids qualify based on power points as is w/ D1, and D2 wants sectional back, now they have it back. As for alignment, i don't think it's fair to look just at this years standings, as last yr D1 South had NK and NP tie, BUT Westerly and Chariho were in the running till the last match or 2. D1 North has been a 2-3 team battle the last few years. As for D2 there's been 2-3 team battles for the division the last couple of years. I don't believe in creating extra divisions so lesser teams w/ lower numbers can win a division crown. I myself have no problem w/ the alginment we have now, but this is all j/m/o

np is 5-1 while mt hope is 4-6-1

the crossover matches with divsion 1 north counts towards the division record
all 16 matches count towards the division record...it's the matches the coaches schedule after the original 16 that don't count towards their record

so even though mt hope mite beat np...because np did better against division 1 north teams..they will prevail

fyi 5678: np still has chariho, burr and barr left also so right there they are 8-1......the most wins mt hope can have is 9....np would just have to win 2 matches out of their other seven...in an event of a tie even if mt hope beat np...the would be co-champs (something the league should change and count head to head for division ties)
