So, I was at Johnston on Monday and this situation came up and even I was stumped. I want to hear the interpretation of the masses.
Wrestler A has just reversed Wrestler B. When A comes down on top of B, there legs are tangled. Wrestler A winds up and throws a punching cross-face. The match is stopped and A is penalized for unnecessary roughness. Wrestler B now has an injury, but it is to his knee (because of the tangled legs). The question is, since the match was stopped for an illegal hold/maneuver, is this recovery time or is it injury time because the illegal hold did not cause the injury?
For those of you who do not know the difference, injury time is 1:30 long and if a wrestler cannot continue after it is over the opponent wins. Recovery time is granted when an injury happens as a result of an illegal hold, is 2:00 long, and if the wrestler cannot continue, they win by DQ.
Whatcha got?

The case book covers this type of situation: 8.2.2.D Wrestler A applies a full nelson and, at the same time, Wrestler B twists an ankle. B's action is unrelated to the illegal hold/maneuver. What is the correct course of action for the referee to take and would this be considered injury or recovery time? Ruling: The rule states that if a wrestler is injured as a result of an illegal hold/maneuver, recovery time is used. In the above situation the injury is not a result of an illegal hold/maneuver, therefore B would have to use available injury time. Wrestler B would be awarded one point for illegal hold/maneuver.
Case closed!!

I was there.. it was clearly an injury first ..the kids legs got crossed- twisted .. When they landed the A wrestler twisted his knee.. The B wrestler planted deep cross face once the A wrestler landed on his belly. the Ref blow the whistle .. Charged the B wrestler with an illegal cross face.. they then awarded the match to the injured ( A ) wrestler.. It made no sense.. But I'm the dad of the B wrestler so I might not be the best judge .. lol Anyway when it happened I knew it was a ref call not a rulebook call. regardless the cross face was not needed and I hope the kids knee is OK . besides that the REF did a great job all day!

You refs are alright. It's nice to see that. It shows you guys care for the sport. And the video work you guys do , that's great , kids look forward to seeing either themselves or there competiors. Hopefully we will see rules guy and his camera at Johnston later in the year. To bad , if you were taping today , you may have gotten coach mancusos vertical leap at the end of OT , could have sent it to wide world of sports. Sooooo, those wernt earthquake tremors we felt down in Southern RI, lol.
