Any Rhode Island wrestlers interested in wrestling in college please come to Western New England University's recruitment day on Dec. 4. You will get a chance to meet the current Golden Bear team and coaching staff including our head coach, former Olympian and Pan-American Games champion from Puerto Rico Anibal Nieves, our heavyweight who won NEWAs as a freshman, Jameson Sacco (all wins coming via first period pin by the way), our 141 pounder and former Massachusetts state champion and 2x place finisher at NEWAs Anthony Medina. Is this open to all High school students, 9th, 10th 11th, and 12th graders?

We're targeting juniors and seniors but yes all high school students can show up. I just need to get them in contact with my coach.

Had the pleasure of meeting Coach Nieves, this year, in Springfield and Ironman. He was great. He went around and helped out all wrestlers with some great tips. He was impressive.

He definitely does a lot for the sport. He brings his clubs to Canada and Puerto Rico every year too. I had the pleasure of going to Puerto Rico with Nieves Wrestling and taking 3rd at the Copa Sparta at 84 kg 18-20 yr olds.
