How Does Wrestling and Faith Come Together?
Heb 11:1 Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
One might ask “what does this have to do with wrestling”. Is this a bunch of mumbo jumbo stuff that really doesn’t make any sense to me? Why is one quoting the bible and how does this really relate to anything that I understand or what I know to be true. Well let me say this. If you can be patient and understand in context each point I make than chances are you might come to something a little new that maybe you never gave a second thought to before.
Whether you agree or not agree everyone is religious regardless of what you think. Even one who claims no allegiance to any particular religion he still is religious. Well how can this be? I thought religion has to do with worshiping God and going to church and practicing values. How can someone who doesn’t go to church and not talk about God or not practice values be RELIGIOUS?
Let’s break down the word “religion”. The prefix re means to do again or to do over…Legion is a large body of people or things…A religious person is someone doing something over and over again repetitively with things or people. So for instance if I am playing golf everyday at a particular place than in essence I can become religious with golf… To break this down more I could say that my God of golf is “the game” . The church becomes the fairways and the greens, the fellowship is the people playing and the sermon becomes the talk and chatter of the day.
This example can be cross used for anything. What is it in your life that you’re religious with? Now on to the subject of God. Because the church has done a poor job in preaching the gospel of Christ are the reasons why we have weak faith and men that are not willing to stand up for truth cause they themselves are despondent to wanting to learn . Lets face it people are what the bible says “lost like sheep and been led astray”…
The values of a person come from the inner core of his own sole. If the inner core is not dealt with and not challenged about his rightful existence than he becomes subject to the worlds ideology that’s around him. He by right of his own choice or volition is operating in a poor religious spirit.
Remember I said that, Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Many people are exercising faith in the wrong things all the time. We are constantly coming up short with the wrong kind of faith. We tend to put faith in everything but the right God. Now for people that have the right kind of faith that are at least trying to share with others the gospel of Jesus, too especially kids, should be listened to and not shunned off as trying to throw religion down kid’s throats. Truth is healthy but religion can be dangerous. But you must be able to understand the difference of truth and religion. Most people who use the cliché “separate church and state” also believe that public speaking about Christ is violating their space on this planet. You know our forefathers fought for freedom of speech. Why should I shut up about the truth? Especially when we have a constitution that supposedly protects that right! And by the way I am a veteran!
I have two sons and a daughter who all know that I am a crazy ass at many of their sporting events. Each of them know that I always am routing them on to be the very best that they can be. But the most important thing I do with them is always mention and try to live up to who the God of our life is. The God that they need to bring into their sport with. The God that they need to rely on when their parent is or is not behaving. The God of our forefathers. I’m sorry but if you’re not getting the jest of what I’m saying than you need to go back to what faith is and ask yourself what kind of faith do you exemplify in your kids life in which they say to themselves “I want that thing that mom or dad has that I cant see but yet I know they have”.
Oh and by the way to answer the question of how this all fits in to wrestling…Have faith and you will see. Faith comes by hearing, hearing the word of God. Rom10:17
Serge…Keep up the good work…Judo is your thing and that’s because you’re God has blessed your allegiance to HIM. I’ve never known you to claim perfection only to know who the perfected one is. Keep your head high and aim toward the goal. For the gate is wide that leadeth to destruction but narrow that leadth to eternal life...dont widen that door unless its to bring more kids in but keep it narrow. And last but not least contrary to what people say about numbers the only one you need on your side is Christ and my spirit bears witness that you are doing the right thing ...
