I may have missed them, but i did not see Danbury's name on the team leaders page. Warwick looks good...when was the last time a RI team won NEs? I think Coventry won it while I was in HS. I'm pretty sure my team was 2nd in the division, 2nd in the "Met" sectionals and 2nd in the state that year...which got us nothing.

Danbury didn't put up a great showing at the Connecticut State opens. Bacon Academy and Daniel Hand HS separated themselves by the medal rounds from everyone else. Bacon secured the state title when the HVWT from Hand lost in the state finals - close state tourney!
coachf, when were you in high school? Coventry won New England's in 1998 (Lewis - 1st at 119, Hennesey - 1st at 160, Fratus - 3rd at 152, Cole - 5th at 112). If I'm not mistaken, the tourney was so close between Coventry and Timberlane that the points scored in consis, even though they didn't place, by Artie Souza and Ryan Sherlock may have been the difference. I could be wrong though. Ah, those were the days when both NEs and states were "follow the leader." No double elimination. If you lost your first match, and then he/she lost their next match, you were done. This made for some interesting cheerleading dynamics. I remember, after winning my pigtail back in the day but losing in the first round, cheering quite actively for a guy I really didn't like in the slightest just so I would stay alive. He won in overtime. Talk about having a heart attack, I was sweating more then than I did in my first match. Good times.

I remember those matches too...rooting for some punk that just beat you. I think the true double rule started Biesteks senior year. I can remember him sitting around his junior year for 5-6 hours and then losing a close match (because he got chucked for 5 points in the first period) to a guy who lost his next match but ended up medaling... (bellini, who biestek beat in the state finals, won the tourni) those NE days required a little luck on your side. I graduated in '91. the year i was thinking of was going all the way back to '88. (i know i'm dating myself) Dan Smith, Ken Plouffe were a couple of their NE champs. They were ridiculous. Back then, they were probably the only school with a youth program...thus the 17 straight state titles.

I left after the semi's, some upsets and great wrestling. biggest upset would have to be Bridson getting stuck after being up 15-5 w/ 1 sec left. Gotta learn to fight off the cradles. Alteri was still in wrestling tough, Alverez lost a hard fought semi's match to Keene, who was just a little bit better on his feet. Hopefully he'll be able to get to 3/4 and get past a disheartened Britzen. 125 was a solid class for us, Vicente and Adams in the semi's Vicente losing a tough one while Buco handled Adams. But Adams up to that point wrestled incredible. The shocker was Shoneil gettin DQ'd after his Buco loss, and a great match that that was as well. 130 had Meyers winning 2-1 over Carroll, a previous loss for Meyers. 1 pt for pulling on Meyers finger and 1 pt for letting him up (Meyers would have escaped regardless, assumin coaches new that and let him up to try and take him down with more time)Meyers has Carroll the CT1 in finals. Travers is wrestling excellent despite being poked in the eyes 6-8 times so far. Cole is wrestling great as well loseing to Jeff Cole by a pt or 2 in the 1/4's, but wrestling back strong. Desiletts seems to be toying w/ his opponents at times, making wrestling look easy for him, many tosses for 5 pts he's had. Everett has TJ Crabtree from St Johns Prep the MA 1. There were some good matches elsewhere through out the RI'ers but we just seemed to have lost some gas in that 1st rd of wrestle backs today. But congrats to the guys still in, and good luck with the medal rds. Remember next years wresling season starts tomorrow

what did shoneil get dq'd for? Him n Buco exchanged words during the match and both got hit for a pt, he then had a few more words after his loss and got hit again for unsportsmanlike. At least thats what I saw. partial update to me Alverez 4th, Adams over Vicente 10-5 for 3rd, Altiere 6th

Travers stop talking on the forum. Dont call shoniel classes u dont know him and he did well and got frustrated so saying everybody did great besides him is an unnecessary shot because he made a lot more noise on a higher level then u did in your four years. (sorry but that just got to me)

(sorry but that just got to me) I never said everyone but him. I agree with you he did have a great career but what he did wasnt right. Win with class, and lose with class. It's high school wrestling, we are not getting paid. Congrats on a good career and once again good job ALL rhode island wrestlers who wrestled this weekend at the New Englands
