this was absolutely pathetic!!!!! these people stop a tournament because the so called "important" people didnt have enough space to call theres.....Do the sport a favor if your not annoucing the next bout stay off the microphone!!!!!!! people get excited they stand up and move around thats wrestling no tournament can stop it so stop trying...Everybody respects your precious "ROPES" so stop thinking you all are so important and do RI wrestling a favor and respectfully be quiet...thank you -concerned fan

that was wrong... they could have just opened up the back side of the bleachers , like last year. instead once again there is a guy in a a suit and tie telling me what to do.. if it was 1969 there would have been a riot !!

Stopping the action was absolutely ridiculous, unnnecessary. They just made a longer night for the wrestlers who had to be back on the next morning. Control freaks! The venue is terrible, was much better and more accommodating when it was held at CCRI. We didnt have to stand/sit 20 feet from the mat or sit where we couldnt even see a scoreboard, so unable to know the scores or time remaining. Very unenjoyable, they should be ashamed of themselves

There comes a time when the event gets bigger than the kids. It finally happened. This weekend was probable not enjoyable for alot of people. A long stoppage in the middle of the first day. Shutting down matts at the end of the night making the kids wrestle at 11:30-12pm. Treating everyone as if we only exist for them. They may have their reasons but this is the RI states. I would have assumed that they would have a specific format that has been studied to make it run as smooth as possible. But no. The way they handled it was unprofessional and disheartening. Once again the kids are the ones who suffer. These fine young men and women work so hard all year and then to see happen this is not a good trend. Alot or friends and family come to support them and end up with a bad taste in thier mouth. I saw wrestlers who went into the stands to thank those who have come to support them , only to get thrown out and put in the back bleachers. It is time to rethink why they run these tournement. They are not for the those in power to dictate, but for the kids and the memories they will take with them as they move on. Congrats to all who wrestled. this tournement was for you. -

The way they handled it was unprofessional and disheartening. - I'm not even going to type it. I'm just going to quote the man who said it. This is EXACTLY what I was thinking the whole time they were doing this.

One question I have to ask ...is when are any of these guys at any dual meet or tournament during the year? Does anyone know? We know who they are, so this is actually just a statement. But to hold the meet as they did and treat and create such a situation amazes me. The fact that a 'official' rep had to sit at the table - who never is at any dual meet/tourney during the year - with the great Morelli family at the door is stunning to be sure that no one gets in and has to 'do his job' standing there collecting money is so pathetic. His attitude is unreal and he should be ashamed of himself. But whatever..... how they did not have everything set ahead of time goes to the sense of no planning at all for a crowd. They should have had the stands in the back open for the wrestlers to be in from the beginning. They should have had security/police set up to direct people ahead of time at the beginning to go to the stands and keep area clean. They also could have had folks set up at certain areas to enter the mats to check coaches bracelets like other out of state meets do.... To stop everything and then have kids wrestle to 11:30pm is a friggin joke. I don't want to hear about how long they have been here etc... that is the problem, times change, just like security, crowd and entertainment management does..... they need to pass the torch to people that know how to run events in a modern environment - and anyone that does not think so has no clue how business/event management has evolved....

. . . . We agree with everyone else……. Everyone involved in making these decisions should remember THIS IS FOR THE KIDS...... This was our last RI State championships since our son is a senior and we felt the wrestlers’ separated from everyone else was horrible….. Some of our most precious memories over the years are from in the stands; interactions and support between parents and students….. This didn’t allow us to support each other as a team. We moved from matt to matt hoping to find someone where to stand or sit with out getting in trouble or scolded….............

When I attend USA or NHSCA Tournaments out of State the same guys run them and do a fantastic job. Maybe they should take some time out of there schedule this summer an attend The Kids National or Fargo to see how these events are run. It would be a great help to talk to people who do this consistently. There is nothing wrong with getting better unless your ego stands in the way. That would justify the Price of admission.

I was sitting in the upper level with a large group. It was extremely hard to make out what the announcer was saying at any point during the tournament, including when the action was stopped, because of the reverberation in the gym. We noticed that when we went downstairs later we could hear a lot better. As a first timer to the state meet, I was impressed by the beautiful facility but disappointed by the management of the event. I would suggest that if there are rules that the management of the tournament would like the spectators to follow, they should hand out the rules when people pay and have posters all over the place that say what they don't want people to do.

Hahahahha that would take common sense and money... Two things the RIIL don't like to dispense. I loved when they were like 1 coach from every team should be on security.... WTF stop being so cheap and pay for some security. I personally liked the facilty but they didn't organize it. I mean there were track jumping mats set up for a tournament to be held on Sunday. RIIL did nothing the coaches got the whole thing set up. RIIL showed up at 215 to hand out wristlets and collect money. That was the extent of their prep work. And then they wanted everything to go perfectly, oh yeah and they keep all the proceeds.

I was talking to a former wrestler who wrestled his states at ric I don't know how long ago this was but was this a good area to hold states? Or did it get moved to ccri b/c of something about the facility?

It was better then ccri but I don't think it was better then providence. It was way more organized though, because RIC had the staff to do it. The issue became that at under a weeks notice they could tell us it couldn't be held there due to playoff basketball games for them.

I absolutely shocked that people let this happen.....RIIL come to line their pockets while we suffer the bearings of their pathetic, egotistical, and rude representatives.... Anyone know why there is a Players Union in all professional sports??? To stop A**holes like the people RIIL sends from taking advantage of their players/personnel. We make them enough money with nothing to show in return...If they still wish to collect at least some percent should go back to the kids...im talking something as simple as a free Gatorade for all participants which they would be to cheap to even accommodate that......This is what RIIL has made it about so now we must stand together and make them feel the pressure....Lets forget the money made but the lessons we are trying to give the kids.....Ones like do not be rude, obnoxious, and egotistical (aka the old guy in the Mr.Rogers jacket who tried to stop kids from standing next to the mat where they were on deck...) That guys is a joke and should be ashamed to even show his face with the antics he pulled this year... Do the state a favor and retire!!!! Its time for RI Wrestling to take the next step and as i said in a couple of my last posts WE are being held back by this OLD REGIME!!!! Congrats to all the participants it was a pleasure to watch all of you this weekend....with a huge SHAME on YOU goin to the RIIL...
