I don't think Sinnott (the student) decided. It's the coaches decision and Coventry won the team matchup.

Sinnott wouldn't back away from a challenge. He's a good wrestler. Switzer is a little better and by wrestling up, Coventry, at worst equalized the score by both wrestlers earning 6 for their team. If Sinnott went against Switzer and lost or worse got pinned that would be a possible 12 point swing if Coventry couldn't win at 145 without Sinnott.

I think it was a smart coaches decision.
