Listen I get that people want to switch schools for what’s best for them but it’s ridiculous when you have a school like pono, a public school, taking kids from not only over the state but all over New England and striving. These kids go here because they can’t start at their school or their school won’t be successful. Serge is only at scituate because of gabe, just like Joyce is there because of his boys. Once they all graduate they’ll go back to their normal lives

I agree with most things said on the on the other thread however the one that popped up a couple times by people was the fact that instead of complaining, that the coaches "should just coach better to be better" . With all due respect to those who feel that way I think its an unfair statement. Alot of coaches in this state are dedicated and are decent coaches who work pretty hard to stay competitive and :
#1 are only allowed to coach there kids 3 months out of the year,
#2 its easy to coach talent when it walks thru your door already polished. 95% of coaches couldnt beat Ponos lineup no matter how much effort they put into it. its not happening in this current system we are witnessing w transfers or pathways.
#3 Most coaches dont have 3 states represented on the team, they just got neighborhood kids. Everyone just needs to accept the Pono way or scituate way for now and just remember that wrestling isnt just about being a state champ, its about all the lessons that wrestling provides so these young men and women become decent human beings when there older.

About coaching kids for 3 months out of the year.. do we really think there are that many coaches who would make a difference if they coached their kids year round?? if anything these kids are getting better working with ironfaith, mayo, and clubs as opposed to their hometown coach who was a one time state placer in the 90s. There is a skill gap in RI, with the athletes AND the coaches. Over the past few years, the teams with the better coaches have been performing.. Pono with Amado , Coventry with Vincente, Hope with giblin

So shoutout to all the coaches volunteering their time to give back !

Pono with Amado , Coventry with Vincente, Hope with giblin Yea, I think there are some who would make a differenece and close the skill gap you mention if they had access to coach year round. They would def raise the level of the mid to low tier kid on there team making the team more competitive overall. Those 3 coaches you mention also either have there own club and have access to work at a club year round. Of course kids who go to the clubs are going to get better faster, thats 12 months vs 3. Not really sure I see your point here by saying its only a few coaches .

All mentioned are part of year round clubs. This point is moot I agree with most things said on the on the other thread however the one that popped up a couple times by people was the fact that instead of complaining, that the coaches "should just coach better to be better" . Pono with Amado , Coventry with Vincente, Hope with giblin You are right about this. They do all belong to clubs. But I was more highlighting their wrestling knowledge and accolades as individuals, rather than where they coach at. Two D3 AAs and a former D1 coach was the point. Significantly different than the rest of staffs, would be ignorant to say this isn’t the main factor compared to how many months you get to work with your athletes.
