How did we miss this? Saw on Connecticut Wrestling Online that there was a New England Showcase high school wrestling event in Providence at RIC in November, "an invitation-only preseason event sponsored by the Swartz Report," which is by Max Schwartz who does NE wrestling rankings each season. There were two RI champs in Gabriel Bouyssou at 150 and Spencer Fine at 190, though the participants represented their wrestling clubs, not their schools. Gabe breezed through with a 16-3 finals win over Kyle Levesque, Connecticut Open runner-up. Spencer had a much tougher finals with a 4-2 win over Mark Ayala of Northfield Mt. Hermon, who was 4th in California last season at 195 lbs. Other RI placers were Hendricken's Seth McGrew, 4th at 126, Aziz Mian of Central 5th at 144, and Cumberland's Jordan Decosta 6th at 165. I think Ben Wilcox was second at 215, but it's hard to tell since that weight didn't have enough for a bracket so ran round robin matches. In fact several weighclasses went round robin: 132, 157, 175, 215 and 285. I also believe Chloe Ross was second in the Girls 120 round robin. All six New England states had representatives, with a number of returning NE champs and placers. Noteworthy were Raekwon Shabazz of Connecticut winning at 113 and 2X NE champ Craig Blanchette down to 175.
