This has already been mentioned in the Rankings section but it seems awhile since a Rhode Island team won an out-of-state wrestling tournament. Impressive accomplishment since BH was down six points going into the finals to leader Massabesic ME with three finalists to Massabesic's four so they all pretty much needed to win with bonus points, with one head-to-head matchup at 145. As we learned all three Hawks won in great fashion, with Vital's probably the most spectacular going pin-pin-tech-major, with a 6-4 defeat of Maine champ and NE ranked Clark of Skowhegan ME (made it to the blood round of 2022 New Englands) sandwiched in the quarterfinals. Fine had a "modest" by his standards 10-3 win over Maine Open runner-up and NE-ranked Hainer of Mattanawcook ME (he also had made it to the blood round at 22 NEs) while Church pinned Butters of Skowhegan, also a Maine Open runner-up. Sclama finished third losing only to the No. 1 seed and champ, while Hulkow placed fourth losing to the Nos. 1 & 3 seeds and Reid was 6th at 160. Hendy won with almost no seeded wrestlers in the tourney (only Fine 1st and Church 3rd) and without McGrew or Campbell. So here's another RI team that looks to be a better tournament team than maybe was expected at the start of the season.
