Concord, NH has become like a second home for Bishop Hendricken wrestlers as they won their third Capitol City Classic in four years on January 27. This is a pretty good late season tourney with strong teams from New Hampshire and Maine, with Pilgrim participating as well. The Hawks edged host Concord with three champs and two runners-up, though surprisingly none of them were Disano. In a 138 pound class stacked with ranked New England contenders the 9th ranked Disano lost 3-1 in OT to 6th ranked AJ Pagliarulo of Bedford, NH in one semi-final while 2nd ranked in N.E. Joshua Lee of Burlington, MA was upset by 8th ranked in Mass Jake Nicolosi of Haverhill. In the finals Pagliarulo almost teched Nicolosi, while Disano forfeited to Lee for 3rd. This will bollocks up the N.E. 138 rankings as Lee had edged Pagliarulo two weeks earlier and was N.E. runner-up last year. Maybe that's why they don't try to seed the New England tournament anymore.
Champs for Hendricken were Williams, Rivet and a game Nick Fine who edged 3rd ranked in Mass. Tyler Glynn of Central Catholic 4-3 at 126. Swanson and Bailey made the finals at 182 and 195 where both lost to the top-ranked wrestlers in New Hampshire at those weights. Arcand was fourth at 170 and Roberts and Knight placed 5th at 160 and 220 respectively, giving BH some additional upperweight success, while frosh Kearney was sixth at 132.
Pilgrim placed seventh in the 25 team field scoring over 100 points, with strong third places from Holland over the 4th ranked 113 pounder in NH and Eckert at 220. Soares was 5th in the brutal 138 class, and Watts forfeited to 6th at 126. Link to results and brackets on Floarena below:
