It's called the Spartan Classic now and, make no mistake, fourth place is a very good showing in what is probably the second-toughest in-season wrestling tournament in New England. Not as big or deep as Lowell, but with the best teams in Maine as well as perennial New England team contenders Timberlane of NH and Danbury, CT. What may be most impressive about the results is Timberland finishing almost 100 points ahead of Connecticut #1 Danbury. Sheesh, I guess they're back. Cumberland trailed these two and Marshwood, always a contender in Maine, while edging Connecticut #7 Xavier. NP placed 12th in the 18 team field (23 counting the "B" teams entered). Only RI winner was Aaron Wilcox, who won 285 over Timberlane's #3 in NH Noah Beaulieu, and over #3 in Connecticut Gaboardi of Danbury. Other RI notables were Noah Tougas and John Hayes, runners-up at 152 and 170 for Cumberland, Josh Wheeler 4th in a stacked 120 lb. class - beating Porcaro along the way, and the Sangares 4th at 160 and 195. See attachment for team scores, placers and brackets.
