I almost missed that Moses Brown had an entry in the Eastern States Classic Wrestling Tournament in New York Jan. 15 & 16. I have written before about the Eastern States which is probably the best mid-season tournament in the entire northeastern U.S. (New York, New Jersey and New England) since it has most of the best teams from both NY high school classifications as well as teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New England. Hardly ever any teams from RI however, so it was special to see Nick Teves make the quarterfinals at 138 lbs. Unfortunately he had to default, then defaulted again in the consey round of 8, so he was only one win in either the championship or consolation rounds from placing. Still, a really good showing against top-flight competition. For some reason Bloom didn't wrestle, even though Moses Brown had an entrant at his weight. I haven't seen Teves name in any MB results since then. Anyone of his injury?
The tournament was won by Wyoming Seminary of Pennsylvania, ranked No. 1 in the country in some high school polls. Connecticut No. 1 and perennial New England power Danbury, CT finished 10th, a good showing, with N.E. third-place finisher Jakob Camacho 7th at 113 lbs. The only other New England place-winner was Brian Rojas of New Milford, CT, 7th at 138.
