In case some of you are wondering what is used to determine which sports stay in the Olympics or which go, I wanted to share this one piece of criteria.
5.15.28 "Steps taken by your IF to present your sport in the most interesting and attractive manner, in particular to young people"
I'm not sure what is the most attractive manner is, in particular to young people, but I know we as Rhode Islanders can take steps to promote our sport.
Our youth wrestling association is made up of some of the best RI has to offer. Police officers, Fire Fighters, EMT's. Doctors, lawyers, laborers. We are a very diverse group that all work hard on and off the mat. For one of the critical criteria to be whether or not the youth have received the sport from attractive and good promotion should be a call to action for all of us.
So I ask this question: Is there an interest locally to help do our part to "Keep Wrestling in the Olympics".
Is there any of who would be willing to make a public statement and provide an arena for activism for the cause.
Is there a pulse on this issue that hasn't been recognized as the stance of RI youth wrestling?
I look forward to any comments.
